Seems like there's been more RNCs in the last few months than I've seen in years. It's been used to finish three title fights and a bunch of others:

Oliveira vs Poirier RNC

Is there anything to this or am I just imagining things?

I feel like it’s always prevalent. Maybe a little more so right now but it’s never out of style

It has always been one of the most used Submissions, but I am however shocked at how easy some of them have looked recently. Its like people dont even wanna try to defend it. And we are talking about the best in the world, like Nunes, just giving up within a few seconds the RNC. Till comes to mind too, as having tapped fast to it.

One of the easiest submission with high percentage of success. You don't even need to know to do it right or execute it flawlessly.

Blachowicz tapped fast too. Not as fast as Till though.

RNC is the most common sub by far. Second is the guillotine I believe.

When was it ever out?
I'm pretty sure it's the most common submission by a country mile.

It's always and will always be a threat in caged combat. Especially when folks are tired. You can kind of see fighters wilt from punches/exhaustion and give up their back or get taken down and this seals the deal. To be as respectful as possible to the combatants it seems like a way out at times. Some quit quickly while others fight for a bit before the tap. All depends on how the fight is going for the person on the receiving end of the choke. A error or fluke takedown to back take and you'll see them fight like hell to defend it. Amanda last night you could tell was done. She would of folded to punches from the back if Pena hadn't sunk in the choke. RNC is always going to be a factor, especially when almost every place on earth now has a legit BJJ academy teaching the art.

The main reason is common and quick is that many guys give up the neck when they are done and are looking for a painless way out.

All I know is ATT better be drilling RNC defence for the next year.

It's the most basic submission on the game. The most prevalent, safest, and effective. Sure you don't always get style points but winning is most important.

Demien Maia is one of the greatest UFC grapplers ever, he has 11 sub wins... 8 of which were RNC and 1 was a neck crank. That says something really special about Charles who throws submissions everywhere. A human highlight reel

Wur? Been the highest percentage submission since forever even in pro BJJ.

If anything I feel like we’ve been seeing way less guillotine subs over the last 5-10 years

It's the easiest submission and is hard to escape if locked in. It's always been the dominant submission and there was even a thread or two about how other submissions have disappeared.
