Stipe had a dumb career on paper. He's fought 2 people in the last 6 years. Fucking stupid matchmaking.

The only thing that really makes sense for him career-wise, are booking 1-2 more big money fights before hanging them up for good. If Jones ain't happening, there's really nowhere left to go unless they can drag Brock or Cain out of retirement.

Stipe is still serving his probation period as a full time firefighter so that’s what is complicating his return

Stipe only became a full time firefighter back in February, he’s not trying to get any special treatment so I doubt he will fight again anytime soon. December likely at the earliest.

Stipe is 40 years old, coming off a bad KO loss. Since nothing is booked yet it will mean its likely 2 full years between bouts.

He won the belt, defended it multiple times. Lost it to an all-time great then won it back in spectacular fashion.

Stipe will go down as one of the great heavyweights with a really legit strength of schedule. I'd personally like to see him retire and enjoy his life. We have absurdly old guys in the upper weight divisions because the UFC pay split is so bad. Just because competition is low doesn't mean you should be getting hit in the head in your 40's.
