I do not see how monuments put up in the Jim Crow era, differ from monuments put up in the Civil War era. Is it inconvenient for the city to keep displaying these monuments in public? Sure, that's precisely why they should continue to be displayed.

It is not up to the later generations to decide what is a convenient part of history that ought to be kept, and what is not. What happened is what happened.

We can feed into the impulse of people's emotional fragility regarding historical subjects, and continue the removal of monuments that offend their delicate sensibilities, and see where it is going to get us, at the end of the day. Were these monuments put up as an attempt to re-write history? Perhaps they were, but I do not see any sense in reacting to this by attempting re-write history again.

The period when Southern people believed in the "Lost Cause" is now also a part of America's historical legacy.

Who is rewriting history? The right, by actually rewriting the textbooks on the Civil War. And yet you don't see leftists clogging up the front page with stories on that despite how much more significant they are than some high school changing a line of a song. And of course its telling that the actual rewriting of history isn't what the right is worried about.

I'm pretty sure there have been plenty of articles regarding the South's re-writing of history. I've seen many heated debates on this forum regarding the subject, and been involved in some of them. The removal of these monuments is simply a more current issue.

The statement remains true. That the Charlottesville attack is not equivalent to a story about a school imposing transgenderism on the children, does not make this statement untrue.

The reaction to the Charlottesville story was way beyond any reaction by the right-wing to a story of equal proportion. Even when Obama made his infamous "workplace violence" comments regarding a terrorist attack in U.S. soil, I do not recall such a huge wave of outrage directed at the President on the right-wing's behalf. Perhaps on this forum (though I still doubt the threads about it made thousands of pages), but certainly not in the real world.

The left is most definitely much more reactionary to "outrage porn" because they are starved of it, because the views that they hold do not truly align with real-world events. On the other hand, there is a steady source of things to be outraged about for the right, because their finger is more on the pulse when it comes to phenomenons that are actively being harmful to the society. The KKK and the Nazis are not it.

Not that I or @Captain Davis are WR mods.. but he's a conservative and I'm a libertarian

I'm not far from a Libertarian. I support a limited government and I'm pretty liberal on social issues. I'm a to each his own guy on social issues, but I also believe in common sense, like a man has a penis and a woman has a vagina.

That being said, I'd say the forum overall is left leaning and the mods are too. I'd be shocked if any mod came out as a straight up Republican. I vote Republican and would never endorse a Democrat. I would consider voting for an Independent or Libertarian.
