I dont know if this is the greatest match-up for Weidman.
Let me get to my reasons.
First off I think Lombards TDD is great which leans me to think Weidman is going to have major problems getting this fight to the ground where Weidman would have the advantage with his great wrestling and BJJ.
Lombard on the other hand has powerful explosive striking and while Weidmans stand up is improving I dont think he can hang with Lombard standing.
If Weidman cant get this to the ground I think Lombards stand up will be to hard to deal with.
Lets also remember Lombard has a history of gassing, for an example the Tim Boetsch and Shlemenko fights Lombard was gassing pretty bad later on in the fight. If Weidman can get him to the later rounds tire him out he might beable to get his take downs and use his ground and pound and submission attempts but I think it's going to be hard match-up for Weidman if he runs into Lombard.

What do you guys think?

im a Huge lombard fan, but i really think weidman takes this.

We still don't know a lot about Lombard. I'd love for him to be the bruiser his fans think he is but the Palhares win doesn't show all that much. I'm not convinced that most of the top 15 guys can't just stay outside his range and outpoint him if they want.

Lombard needs to try TD's as well.Look at those legs, pretty monstrous. Also can you imagine he does 10+ muscle ups at HIS weight?

Dude is monster strong but he's one dimensional. He has said he wants to only stand,he's like Rampage in that regard and that will cost him.

I wouldn't say it's a bad matchup. It'd be a test as Lombard's probably the best fighter Weidman has fought, but Weidman would take him down and if he couldn't finish him take a 30-27 decision.

He wants to stand, but he actually has a ground game to use as a fallback option if he needs to.

weidman taking lombard to the later rounds and gassing out him out?, i highly doubt that, remember the maia vs weidman fight? they were already sloths from the 2nd round and on. I'm not saying lombard has better gas, i just think theyre evenly matched on all aspects of the game, just a slight adv. for lombard on the standup, I think lombard could (T)KO weidman in the 1st maybe 2nd if not than he will take a decision

The competition in Bellator is completely different than the competition in the UFC. I guarantee you that Weidman is a far better wrestler than all those other fighters Hector fought while he was champion. Nonetheless, Hector is still a tough fighter.

of course, but he still knocked out veterans like jay silva and hung in there with mousassi, that says something. sometimes you need to look past the record and how it looks on paper, and watch the fighter fight. from there, judge.

Lombard wont even make it out of the first round

I think Weidman would take it if he could avoid a big shot from Lombard

Would be a tough fight for the both of them. I'd like to it happen at some point just not recently because I don't want either fighter knocked out of title contention.

That is not an accurate way to describe Weidmans cardio.
Weidman took that Maia fight on 10 days notice. He was never training for a fight. He had no fight scheduled. The UFC called needing a late replacement 10 days before the fight. So his camp training consisted of cutting 32 lbs and no fight training at all.
I think thats a fair excuse for gassing considering he never trained a day for the fight and just focused on cutting 32 pounds in 10 days. Look at Weidmans career he's never had a problem gassing so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one considering the circumstances.

That is true, but also you gotta look at the time and the way they have changed since. Who knows? Maybe Dollaway or Leben were capable of finishing Jay Silva in similar fashion, and look at where both of those guys are currently ranked.

Yeah, he definitely didn't want to stand with Shlemenko. His grappling is a good alternative.

Tough matchup for both fighters IMO.

I'd favor Chris slightly - but not with confidence. We don't really know if Chris can take Hector down. And we've seen very little of Chris' striking.

Frankly, there's lots of question marks around both guys - we haven't seen either guy tested that much.

I'd favor Weidman, however I think there would be a pretty high chance of Hector winning by brutal KTFO.

How would Weidnan finish a fresh Hector...? A gassed Hector in sat round 3, yes, I could see Weidman getting the finish. But a fresh Lombard, I just can't see it.
