is khamzat no longer able to make ww?

I'm curious why he is focused on moving up to MW in his next fight and ditching his ww title shot entirely.

It is also strange why he is waiting until October to fight next. His last opponent Kevin holland will have had at least 2 fights since retiring after their last fight.

Even if colby is getting the next shot, doesn't it make sense for khamzat to offer to fight Usman or Belal next? It lets him redeem himself for his weight cutting failures and is also a good fight to set him for a title shot. Even if usman/belal are ducking him and refusing to sign as he claims, he could always get a fight with a Neil mangy or geoff neil to redeem himself.

But it seems like he just wants to move up to MW now. I wonder what is going on. Other fighters have missed weight before and have not had to be banished to a higher division. Nor have these fighters taken a year of in between fights during their prime.

As a fan it sucks. It feels like we have been robbed of seeing khamzat fight in Q1 and Q2/Q3 of 2023.
You have to keep in mind, the weight thing has been blown way out of proportion. He can certainly make WW. It's just UFC is pushing him to go to MW right now because of all the drama. But Khamzat and his team have continued to say he wants both belts.

There were rumors going around a few months ago that Chimaev did a test weight cut out of competition at 170 and failed. And that the UFC knew about it and likely initiated it. So they told him to move to 185 most likely permanently. He can say he wants both belts but it is just talk when he knows he will not be fighting at 170 unless he makes some major changes to his diet and walk around weight.

Dana hates WW's that miss weight KG has been forced to fight MW's biggest for this same reason.
Nah, Dana has a huge dad boner for Colby. He needs to clear the entire division out of the way in order to make him champion. It's just typical pro wrestling shit. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire missing weight fiasco was orchestrated in the first place.

I didn't hear about that but I wonder exactly how Khamzat is doing his weight cuts? Surely with the right people helping him through his cuts he'd be able to do it. I bet he did it by trying to sweat the weight off, which isn't really the best or healthiest option.

Probably, but at this point it might hinder his training and progression to a point where it might be detrimental for the future of his career.
Spending majority of his camps cutting a ton of weight will reduce the time he puts into sharpening his skills.

We've seen guys like Whittaker and Poirier have a similar thing early in their careers, then once they moved up they were able to evolve into much better fighters without having to constantly worry about their weight.
IMO moving to middleweight seems like a good move and I predict he'll have a good amount of success there.

The UFC fucked that up so badly. Their fucking bullshit instant rematch policy. Borz should have been fighting Edwards not a rematch with Usman.

And had they done that. That whole Nate debacle never would have happened. Push the guy for 2 years only to fuck it up on the final step.

And I don’t care anymore. The guy never fights. Title fights mean almost nothing these days.

Stipe and DC had instant and almost instant rematches. That shit only stopped when Ngannou beat Stipe.

The last holder of the LHW belt, Glover was signed to rematch Jiri. Jiri got injured preventing that bullshit from happening.

The last holder of the MW belt, Izzy is getting the instant rematch.

The last holder of the WW belt, Usman got his instant rematch.

For some reason there have been zero instant rematches at LW for a while. Going from memory here. But iirc there were rematches with BJ/Frankie, then Frankie/Maynard because of a draw. And Frankie/Bendo around 2010, 2011. I’m not looking that shit up. I think I got that right.

The last holder of the FW belt, Max got his instant rematch. Alex is pretty much guaranteed one if he loses. Unless he vacates to move up.

The last holder of the BW belt, Yan would have gotten an instant rematch. Except Aljo got surgery. So Yan fought Sandhagen for the IC.

FLW is a complete joke for men. Apparently there are only two fighters in the whole division pretty much.

No rematch for Cyborg at 145.

Instant rematch for Amanda at 135.

Instant rematch for Shevchenko at 125.

No instant rematch for Carla, or Rose. But Weili, and Joanna both got one.

So except for WFW, and LW about 12 years ago. Every other UFC division has had instant rematches, or were signed to have one in the last few years.

That’s fucking stupid, and killing my interest as these divisions get logjammed.

ENOUGH ALREADY!

I mean, he pulled DC's towel trick at one of his weigh ins, then missed weight by an almost record amount. In the process almost tanking a card entirely built around him and trying to make him a mainstream star.

Probably didn't help that he was consistently unapologetic and unrepentant about the whole thing. Screaming "make weight don't make weight who gives a fuck?" Into the crowd and then doubling down that he doesn't care about making weight in the post fight presser.
thats what put me off.

then the fake glove touch takedown, he won fair and square.

but robbed fans that paid money to see him fight, he fucked up the fight card, fucked up danas day,

and basically said fuck you i dont care.

fuck me... no... no... fuck you cumshot. alls he does is talk.

its a shame because the fight with gilbert was fire. guy has potential.

I really doubt it's the UFC that is pushing him to MW. Dana loves these double champ nonsense. Khamzat was groomed by the UFC to be champ at WW ie. cupcake Nate fight for title shot. Dana didn't even badmouth Khamzat for the royal screwup. So the weight thing is not blown out of proportion. Dana and Co. knows damn well he can't be trusted to make WW.

It was a one time thing. Letting him try again wouldn't be out of the question or unreasonable. Khamat and his team have both said that given another chance he could make WW no problem. It's Dana that's talking about Khamzat moving to MW and it's clear he's the one forcing the issue. After all, before Dana started pushing for MW, Khamzat and his team were still talking about certain fights they wanted at WW.

I don't disagree, so much, but the problem is that all of these instant rematches were fucking legends who held the title for many defenses. They're still at the very top of the division and have resulted in some classic fights. I kind of like that a lot of these match ups end up being best 2/3 while other contenders sort themselves out.

Not every time, but a lot of those rematches were really solid matchmaking.

I guess I'm on the fence about it

I think it is quite simple. He can’t make 170, so That’s over for him, and at 185 he wants fights he does not deserve, like top 3. And he does not want any of that smoke what almost all the top 15 middleweights can bring him. He is probably trying to bulk at the moment, to be able to implement his game at MW in the future.

You're so out of touch, maybe in denial. Khamzat was literally dying trying to cut weight for the Diaz fight and missed the weight by 9 lbs.. The one before that he cheated on the scales to make the weight. The dude can't make the weight anymore simple as that. lt happens, fighters that are huge for their weight class out grow said weight class..

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the amount of weight he missed with at the Diaz fight since he had started rehydrating again when weighing in at 9 lbs over. We don't know how close he was when the doctors recommended he should stop. But you are right, he is very big for WW.

I have only heard rumors about Khamzat never fighting WW again. He's missed weight one time and according to him he rehydrated which is why it was by so much. I'd prefer him to either have a title shot or a match for #1 contender vs Shavkat then a title shot. If he gets WW title it would be crazy to see him go for MW and LHW after.

Ww is stalled out so ufc is making him fight mw since there's no new contenders and he can get a title fight asap

It really sounds like you're not ready accept that Khamzat can't be trusted to make WW anymore.
