Is Jones mentally weak?

No, he seems to not be.
Little Jonny is clearly afraid to take the Aspinal fight.
Sonnen said he's been ducked too, Pico's cowardice knows no bounds.
That's not mentally weak, that logical thinking.
Yes, known in Latin as - Estraajinn-boy Missinna Phallus

He didn't take the Sonnen fight because he was following Greg Jackson's instructions. He had no reason to go up to heavyweight to fight again a guy he beat twice already. He closed that rivalry definitively.

He's not fighting Aspinall because he's risk adverse at the end of his career. He would have fought anyone when he was younger.

Refusing to fight Cormier at heavyweight cause it would give DC the advantage.
Current ducking of Aspinall.
You got the nail on the head right here. Jon never accepts any fight where he doesn't have every advantage.

It's why he doesn't take short notice fights, it's why he wanted DC at LHW and not HW, it's why he waited for Francis to leave and Stipe to turn 65 years old before calling him out. It's why he wasn't that interested in fighting much during the strict testing era (until they made up that BS pulsing excuse for him).

Jon doesn't take risks. And it's one of several reasons why fans shouldn't consider him the goat over guys that did take risks.

Fedor said the man who's never fallen has never stood up.

Jones is a guy who's afraid to stand up.

JONES DID NOT SET THIS FIGHT UP. THE UFC DID.

Is an alcoholic junkie mentally weak? Of course no!

He definitely said it was a safety crutch but not fighting the overmatched sonnen was a fuck sonnen moment not a duck imo.
Jones has an addictive personality type that manifests in a few different ways. When Jones isn't in party-boy booze-and-coke fiend fight prep mode, he's completely obsessive about leaving nothing to chance, showing the control freak side of his addictive nature. He watches more tape, does more extensive game-planning, and does more fighter-specific training than anyone else. It leads to great displays in the cage, but it also means he's not likely to take fights where he doesn't have the time to do those things, even if they're fights where he'd be a big favorite.

You really have to wonder what he will do once he is retired.
I know he's disliked but hopefully he finds something else and doesn't fall off a cliff mentally and emotionally.

Was a decade undefeated LHW champion and cleaned 3 generations, one that is full of roid to the gill killers.

Fights in slow motion and in their style like he takes gratification on torturing them, their knees and never making them look the same again.

And you’re calling him mentally weak…

I don't know why people are so stunned at this?
I've laid out the argument in the OP. Dude flat out admitted that he doesn't want to fight DC, a guy he had already beaten twice, at HW cause the advantage would shift.
I'll call it being careful and paranoid than mental weakness but how would you explain him refusing to fight someone he has already beat twice in a different weight class?

He’s an athlete who cheated. He won the majority of his fights using his insane range and eye pokes. He’s a good fighter, but he’s not the best fighter we’ve ever seen, and to say that is an insult to mankind
We are not talking about whether he is a good fighter. We are talking about him being mentally weak.

I suppose it depends on how you define mental weakness, but I have a hard time accepting a definition that includes elite cage fighters.

One of the primary activities on Sherdog is talking shit about people who could beat the shit out of you without breaking a sweat.

I don't think Jon has the fortitude to post 20k on Sherdog.

Us sherdoggers are qualified to judge

Fa sho...100% absolutely positively guaranteed no doubt.

Finished chael with big toe hanging off his foot

Finished Vitor with a fucked up arm

Dug deep to win last two rounds against Gus

TS is a moron

You just said he’s arguably the greatest fighter to ever live so I was responding to that…

Being a cage fighter doesn’t automatically make you mentally strong. There are guys in my high school who used to beat up smaller kids but they were terrified to read in front of the class. Like I said Jones is a good fighter but it’s insulting to say he’s the best ever considering how mentally fragile he is.

I saw this being discussed and I was curious. Now, Jones is a professional fighter and one of the GOATs so he's infinitely mentally tougher than me and most people but in the context of the sport, do you think he is?
Refusing to fight Sonnen short notice.
Partying one week before every fight as a safety net.
Refusing to fight Cormier at heavyweight cause it would give DC the advantage.
Current ducking of Aspinall.

Other greats like Silva, Fedor, MM and Aldo have risked their spot and legacy by fighting younger guys despite knowing they are past their prime and they did it consistently. Meanwhile Jones has refused this and his defense is: I'm done too much in my career. Everyone else is a nobody.

GSP pulled off a similar thing when he beat Bisping but he vacated the belt and didn't hold up the division. Jones meanwhile has held the division up for over a year now.
He’s the best.

Tom just isn’t a big deal

No, but being a dominant champion does

GSP is the best ever IMO. I don't like Jones and I always hope he loses. I just don't think it's accurate to call him mentally weak.

I wouldn't say he's weak, but he's unstable, like other greats- Tyson comes to mind.
