Is Jon Jones a weight bully at 205?

Didnt read that bible but no, he fights at low 220's, thats average for LHW.

There is no such thing as a weight bully.

Weight cutting is stupid, overall but it's the system we've got. If a fighter can make the weight for weigh ins and isn't a desiccated shell from cutting the weight, then fair play.

On the other hand, if he doesn't make weight for weigh ins or if he loses the fight because he's so drained, so be it.

There needs to be one kr two more weight classes between 155 and 205. It's crazy that a 50 pound spread between LW and LHW only contains 2 weight classes, given how it seems like there are so many fighters in the 150-180lb range. Which makes sense, that's probably really close to average weight of male athletes, in general.
True dat. "weight bully" is a prop for those with nothing else negative to throw at a certain fighter they dislike. Pathetic really

the older LHW division was filled with a bunch of guys that should have been cutting to MW
Many of them couldn't make middleweight chael looked like death at middle weight Rashad could only do it because he got old and probably has low testosterone rampage would never make it down hes skinny as shit at light heavyweight machida could

Your bias would hold merritt if it weren't weren't the fact that Jon faced plenty of 6'3" athletes on his way to the title shot, they were talented prospects they just didn't posses Jon's tallent. Jon is as dominat as he is simply a more talented fighter than everyone hes faced.

Also people love bringing up that Gus is past his prime when Jon is past his prime as well and DOMINATED someone who tapped gus and finished gus as well. Also Santos is way shorter than Jon. Enough bias.

No such thing as a weight bully. It's a copout that losers whine about. The scale doesn't care about your narative.

There is no need for more weight classes as everyone is close together.

Basically all LW are between 165lbs to 175lbs on fight night

Basically all WW are between 178lbs to 195lbs

Basically all MWs are 195lb to 210lb

Basically all LHW are 210lb to 235lb

The correct proposal is the hydration tests 3x, and say before and day of weigh ins. Eliminiate weight cutting.

Divisions become

LW 155lb to 170lb
WW 171lb to 185lb
MW 186lb to 205lb
LHW 205lb to 235lb
HW 236lbs to 305lbs

I'm not sure hydration test would work but even then, you're never gonna have a guy intentionally going in to a fight weighing 171lbs against an opponent weighing 185 lbs. That would be giving way too much of an advantage.

I dont agree that a 15 pound spread between 171 and 185 Is "close together." I think if your hydration test proposal works, even then those ranges need to be smaller or else we'll just have a similar problem; we'd have guys with 170lb frames either packing on too much muscle or cutting too much body mass to be at the top end or their weight class. Instead of dehydrating to ensure they are at the top, they'd be changing their bodies over the long term. Put simply, we would never see anyone weigh in at 171-180 pounds, say, so why bother having the ranges that big?

And more importantly, I would say, we as fans lose out on seeing athletes performing at their ideal weights. Human bodies come in a wide range of sizes/weights. It's silly to shoe horn them all into such wide categories.

150, 160, 170, 180, 195, 210, 265.

Or something similar. Close enough to what we've got, but a few more weight classes where they are needed most.

No. He always had those skinny chicken legs.

If a guy can comfortably make a weight for that long without missing or going to the hospital due to dehydration, you can't call him a weight bully.

Just because he's tall with a huge reach, doesn't mean he's too big for the division.

Not a weight bully. He just had the perfect combination of reach, strength, and technique. Would he have success at HW? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have the perfect frame for LHW.
this is exactly what I think (and came to write).

MO has ko win over Jiri and very competitive second figth , Rakic is a poor man s jon who has beaten the left overs of Jon and Glover and Spann and Walker <36>

nah he's not a bully, but he never will have the balls to face hws, never ¡¡¡

almost no one has it like that in any sport, HW is the symbol of the strongest/badass man on planet.

if you are HW champion it means that you are on top of the mountain, you can destroy any Fighter of any category.

he typically weighed about 220lbs on fight night.

so did Chuck, Randy, Page, Shad, and Shogun.

even Loyotah macho tia
and Vitor weighed in the 210lb range on fight night. Hendo was the only LHW at a crazy disadvantage in regards to weight with Jones.

Jones gets his huge advantage from his reach, but that's not something you can form different divisions with like weight. Jones has a natural gift no different than BJ being insanely flexible or Big Foot having huge hands. it's just part of the sport

how would Werdum ever be a bad matchup for Jones
Werdum is very tricky. On his best day he's been as good as it gets at Heavyweight and would absolutely pose threats to Jon Jones that we have absolutely not seen Jon Jones have answers to.

I'd take the best Werdum over the best Jon Jones all the way.

This weight bully thing is pathetic. The worst part about competitive fighting isn't the training. That's fun. The competition is fun and exhilarating. The weight cut, by far, is the worst fucking part. If you're cutting more weight all the power to you because it shows incredible mental tenacity to cut more than others and actually make weight. That's why not being mentally tough enough to make weight a la Khabib, Anthony Johnson, Nicco Montano, etc. is such a sin in combat sports -- it's basically the same as tapping to strikes. You tapped to a sauna.
