is Jiri underrated now?

In my humble opinion he's always been a bit overrated. Glass cannon, LHW version of gaethje. All offense at the expense of his defense.

This is the same guy that went life and death with the ghost of Christmas past version of Glover. And should've lost. That's not a good look. That same version of Glover got manhandled by Hill.

At first I was pretty confident that jiri would beat Hill but I've since changed my tune. If Hill is patient and doesn't pay rock em sock em robots jiri will give him opportunities to hurt him and KO him.

Jiri could buzzsaw through Hill too. This fight isn't easy to call because it can go so many different ways. Hell I can see Hill winning a decision.
If there's one guy in that division who is underrated, I think it's Jamahal Hill.

I agree with everything you said about Jiri, although I do think he's a solid top 3 LHW at this point in time. But there are obvious problems with his approach to fighting at this level of competition. As I mentioned in another post, he's been in the UFC since 2020, yet only has 6 fights, two of which he lost at the hands of Pereira.

This is an issue in so many ways: until Pereira gets dethroned, I doubt he'll get another title shot. And on top of not having enough fights to be a real familiar face among the UFC roster, his kamikaze style has led him to these chaotic bouts in most of which he got rocked pretty bad. And even though he won many of those fights, the lasting impression that you get of him is that he's a vulnerable fighter...incredibly fun to watch, but vulnerable nonetheless.

Yep. I agree with you

I don't know, he's a one dimensional flat footed boxer whose claim to fame is beating the corpse of Glover and not being able to put him away.
IMO Hill doesn't have a very high ceiling and I doubt he'll ever touch the gold again. Him and Jiri should be a banger fight while it lasts though.

He’s got some solid hands, man. And these punches come from really awkward angles too. Kinda reminds me of Chuck Liddell for some reason.

I remember when he dropped Jimmy Crute multiple times, Crute got hit brutally and I could barely see what hit him as it happened. And he’s a big tall guy too. In itself that’s certainly not enough to qualify as the elite in a division, but thankfully for him, LHW is quite shallow at this time, and the top guys are pretty much all strikers too, so his skillset allows him to fare quite well among that roster of guys.

You’re probably right that he’ll never touch gold again, and quite frankly he’s proven to be quite an annoying guy out of the cage, which I think might be the main reason why people seem to dislike him.

i don't think there's any way to rank him. how do you rank an insane berserker who doesn't do anything conventionally.

He's a magnet for people who want to feel smart by pointing out that a guy who gets hit and has been knocked out has a chance of getting hit and being knocked out.

He's solid for sure but it just happens to be a pretty weak era for 205 so he probably doesn't get the credit he deserves.
How long has it been since LHW has been considered strong? 20 years, maybe? 25?
Probably when DC, Bones, Rumble, and Gustaffson were all contenders at 205

yes, But he's always Overlooked and underestimated. That's why he's so fun. Everyone thinks that you can just stay composed and "technical" against him.

He doesn't fight to win rounds, he fights to finish fights so he's different in that way.

Guy is 30-5, and has only lost to Alex in the UFC. Imo, he is the second best LHW on the planet and he might make easy work of Hill who, I know he's good, but he hasn't been tested as much as Jiri.
I think Poatan is the only one who has the tools to beat Jiri, not just because he has the power but the precision. The other LHWs don't have that combo and Jiri won't give them the same respect like he gave to Alex, kinda like how he did against Rakic, kept moving forward and ended up getting to Rakic.
I think he'll do the same to Hill. He might get hurt but his crazy pressure, durability and style will get him the KO.
One of my favorite fighters, dude is must see tv.

But MMA fans are fickle and Poatan is a terrible matchup for him, hard to see him getting the title back as long as Alex is champ.

He beats every other LHW tho. And he is definitely improving.

Jiri is the fucking man. So glad he put jamalal out of his misery. and Hill looked awful his cardio looked bad his physique the worst I've ever seen

He is 5 years younger than Alex though, he's been around for ages of course but really it was only when he got into the UFC he started having lots of real wars, prior to that he was dominating most opponents besides losing to Mo and the fight with a young Nemkov.

Ankalaev would be tough.
Magomed doesn't have the power of Alex. Imo, that's what difference. With other LHWs, Jiri fights without giving a fuck and usually breaks them. Alex has the power to make him for his reckless style.
Magomed would trouble him more than say Hill but I would bet on Jiri in that fight.

This definitely aged well 🍺
