Is Jamaica any good?

I'm guessing a shithole and have no desire to find out for myself . I made the mistake of going to st. Thomas already

Goldeneye is indeed beautiful. It’s like everywhere else really you just have to find the nice areas. In Jamaica’s case I highly recommend Ricks Cafe (Negril in general)

i hated rick's cafe when i went.

There are some nice areas. Most of it is a 3rd world shithole but there are some beautiful beaches. I’d like to go to the area where Ian Fleming lived.

The weed sucks though
I've been to negril three times.

Great place. The weed does suck. But I hear that everything's legal now and they have vending machines of weed at the airport even

complete shit hole. much better and safer islands to travel around.

unless you like sitting in resorts, then it doesn't really matter where you go I guess.

Really? I thought it was very nice and laid back. The jerk was great and it wasn’t overrun by college kids at the time. Being a college kid myself I really appreciated that fact

Yeah - St. Maarten, St. Barth’s, Turks and Caicos, Jost van Dyke (BVI) and various Bahamian islands are all above Jamaica in my list

pure tourist trap. personally not into that kind of thing.

Gotcha I’m the same but I thought might as well experience it once.....I guess the most tourist thing I did was Dunn’s river falls....now that is a one time experience

Both.

One of the nicest most honest guys I know is Jamaican. He's a great guy. From great Family.

With some of the criminal element there I think you either get fantastic people like my friend or all out fucking criminals.
Agreed.

Both.

One of many other Caribbean islands is just as beautiful minus the ridiculous amounts of crime.

i liked that part. my gf is half-jamaican and her paternal grandparents are snowbirds so we were able to have a more...authentic experience when we were there. had a bus take us around various parts and did as locals do.

It was ok. I went and enjoyed myself but I brought a bunch of vicodin overpaid for weed and just got super fucked up everyday. This was a resort vacation for me and I just wanted to chill and not do anything and not be obligated to wake up at some certain time. I always plan all this shit on vacations and I'm waking up everyday like I'm on schedule.

Also I don't know whats in the food in Jamaica but I was banging my wife like I was 16 years old. She had to tell me to chill. I blame the Jerk Chicken\burgers shit was good.

What do you mean by that?

Shit compared to other stuff you have had elsewhere or that you just don't like it? Because weed aficionado rank Jamaica as one the best sources of weed. Geez I think it is their national flower and many consider it a sacrament.

I meant that because I was a young, white guy 10 years ago when I went there, I imagine they figured they could sell me shitty weed. And they did! But then again, a lot of weed I bought around that age was shitty. N

Complete shithole...unless you don't leave the resort...

Not really there are beautiful waterfalls and mountain jungles. Also some very down to earth Rastafarians and locals if you stay out of Kingston.

Weeds legal now and plentiful. If you do not know who you are getting it from and look like a one time customer you will always get the worse stuff they have. And that is the case anywhere you go.

the key to buying it in a place like an island, is to get a local who knows the scene to source and get it for you (taxi drivers are great as can be hotel bar staff or other) and make sure you tip them in advance well, and tell them you will need them to get you more at several points in your stay even if you do not think you will need more. A potential repeat buyer and repeat tipper will get the best service as none of them, courier or seller, want you to go elsewhere for your second purchase and beyond.

The Internet suggests that white wives of loser husbands love Jamaica.

Bumbaclot.

yes physically it is arguably the most beautiful island in the Caribbean and competes with Hawaii in that regard. Beaches, Jungles, Mountains (for coffee and cocoa) and if you avoid the rougher places (just as you have to in the US) you will be fine.

there are far more 'wrong side of the tracks' shithole places in the US to worry about than in Jamaica.

Even Kingston is not bad if you know how to be a smart tourist and not look like a mark everywhere you go. One of my friends did a stint in Kingston as part of his dental school off site. He choose to go there and live right in the city due to the vast experience he would get in a short time at the volunteer free dental clinic there, and he loved it. And he is a manlet, uncool, white dude and said he had zero issues. But he is also well traveled and knows how to not stand out like a tourist.

I've been there 4 tiems.. Greeat 4-5 beach get away. Some cool day trips: swimming with dolphins, ziplining, horseback riding etc.

We did Couples Swept away in Nagril, and we tipped the dude who showed us to our room a $20USD (which was way too much) but we were treated very well. We wanted to avoid the big buffet breakfasts, so the dude brought us coffee, fruit, and pastries every morning.

No casino though.
