Is Gane the best striker Jones has faced?

Gane got wobbled by Tuivasa.. a guy who really should be fighting at MW but is too fat. I can't remember jones ever getting dropped like this:

If jones high kick lands, Gane is going to sleep.
Jones has a GOAT level chin. Ate flush bombs from Santos and DC like they were nothing.

fighting at middleweight.... look at his bone structure, he's got wrists like telephone poles.....

Jon still has a 3.5 inch reach advantage. Cyril Gane has similar measurements to Gustaffson and is probably just as fast and technical but heavier. It's a tough matchup for Jon if Jon can't wrestle.
I can't see Jon having the better punches so whatever minimal advantage he has there on paper seems irrelevant to me.

Also Gane covers distance just SO much faster and smoother than Jon. Honestly I feel like Gane could catch Jon with punch counters on Jon's kicks if he times it right.

I don't see any striking range that looks favorable to Jon. Not unless Gane is already damaged or gassed.

I agree 100% it's a bad night for Jon if he can't wrestle, but it is no picnic closing that distance in the first place. He has to go through kicking and punching range while, imo, outmatched at both, to get inside and make it a brawl.
(Lucky for Jon he has a Goat chin and Gane isn't the heaviest one hitter guy)

Jon can brawl. And he can fight a nasty inside fight. That is where I can see him having success. If he can get there and keep it there or get to the floor.

"But is fat" doesn't change the fact that he hits like a 265lb man. That shot would have anyone on skates. What a brain dead take. Jones could barely beat no knee Santos and then lost to Reyes who has been brutally finished in his last 3.

lol thanks for taking the words right out of my mouth.
that shot by Tai would've knocked out anyone. I was very impressed with how Gane was able to get back up right away and regain balance. If anything, Gane proved he can take big shots and has a chin on him.

Let's not forget usada picogram 2.0 excuses. I can't wait for what usada manufactures next.

Lesser men would be on the floor. Picograms would be snoring.

I'm curious about Pico grams . He can't crack an egg. He loves eye poking and picograms.

I can't wait for him to get slep.

not saying jones will KO gane.

just pointing out that gane has poor distance management. Tai is short and reach is 7" less than Gane's. he should not have been able to reach his chin. Jones is going to have an easy time connecting and also avoiding gane's shots.

Should not have been able to reach his chin? huh?

Ali had a 6" reach advantage on Frazier. I guess Frazier shouldn't have been able to touch Ali, huh?

That isn't how striking works bro lol. Short reaches own the clinch zone and long reaches dominate the jabbing zone. It's chess not checkers.

He has a 75" reach and is 15-5 at heavyweight

I think he's okay, expert

I'm tall and on the verge of lanky and shorter dudes that would bull rush in were annoying as fuck for me to spar. You gotta have really quick light footwork to stay in favorable range and it is hard to land clean while backpedalling or turning out.

People see Ali land a KO on a backstep and think "yeah just do that" but it ain't that fucking easy in reality.

I'm 5'9" with a 69"ish reach. If your footwork is on point you can be a headache for tall lanky strikers, especially in MMA where you have to defend takedowns and drop your hands.

These keyboard warriors that have never touched a glove in their life saying "oh, long reach? shouldn't get touched" are living in fairytale land lol

Yes definitely.

Gane is also in his prime. This should be a great fight.

Gane has to be one of the most overrated guys in the sport right now. He doesn't do anything that Jon hasn't seen and beat before.

Tall fighters were much easier for me to spar. They played my game. They generally didn't mind staying at range, which is where I liked to be.

Those bulldog bumrush motherfuckers gave me fits. Coming forward either covering all prime target up or swinging, often blindly but it was still a pain in the ass to deal with.

It is tiring to fight going backwards. Punching while moving backwards and bringing your punches back to cover and keeping your feet moving, constantly having to pivot because you run out of space and don't want to be pushed into a corner.

I do consider reach an advantage but it definitely itely isn't the end all be all.

Lol when has he knocked out anyone with a high kick? When has he knocked out anyone? You're setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Each bomb you eat weakens your chin and with that said Tai is fat but still weighed over 270lbs so that is more mass that hit Gane.
Machida is the best striker, but Gane is right behind at 2nd. And Machida is nowhere near the size as Gane and has 8" less of reach.

It is a debate to be honest I tend to agree that Machida is overall more 'elusive' harder to hit, is tricky, is unorthodox but Gane presents unique challenges he is very fast, much taller than Machdia and he is a legit 6'5 I would say where as Jones is really 6'3 & 1/2. I predict during the barefoot stare off Gane will look 2 inches taller and he has long legs and only 3 inch less reach than Jones but he is taller so it will likely negate Jones advantage not to mention he will be the heaviest opponent Jones has ever faced.
