Is Gane the best striker Jones has faced?

DC
Gus
Shogun
Machida

Rampage Jackson
Glover
Smith
Belfort

all of them are arguably better strikers than Gane

Weight classes exist for a reason. Tai might not be as skilled but he's a ranked HW with KO power. If it were that easy to beat him, guys would move up and do it.
He would get smash real easy by a LHW who isn't stupid and uses his strengths, Anthony Smith would submit him.

And guess what happens when a HW like Tuivasa lands on you?
Obviously rocked or knocked out, but what if he doesn't? He skills everywhere else is so non existent that he would get subbed real quick by a competent intelligent fighter... This generation of Heavyweights are the most unskilled fighters ever, literally all they have is knock out power, the last HW fighter who had skills was Daniel Cormier.

If we're talking pure striking technique, then it's definitely Machida. He's widely considered one of the best strikers in MMA history, and rightfully so. Vitor, Shogun, and Prime Gus were phenomenal strikers too.

However... when you add in the size and power advantages that Gane has over the aforementioned guys, I think you can make an argument as the most difficult striking opponent that Jones has had to deal with. The way he moves around at his size is just incredibly impressive. It's a super tough matchup for Jones.

we cannot ignore the size and power.
Jones usually beats people in striking at distance because of his size. machida had to lounge at Jones to hit him for example. Jones doesn’t actually have good footwork or head movement. But his size and then wrestling threat if you get too close is the issue with fighting Jones. His wrestling threat also opens you up to his spinning elbow. jones in his PeD prime was just a nightmare especially for shorter fighters.

Gane will be the best striker Jones has faced in terms of overall size power and technique all combined.

jones should be doing a wrestling heavy game plan IF he still even is a good wrestler without his PEDs.

standing with Gane at distance … Jones will lose for sure.

Stop it man, we both have been a fan of MMA long enough to both know what a heavyweight punch can do, we also both know that heavyweights are the most unskilled fighters on the planet & some solely rely on said punching power, Tuivasa is one them.

All those superior LHWs who cut so much weight should stop cutting weight and take on the skilless Hws then right?

right???

Geez I wonder why they don’t.
/end sarcasm.

If they can make a weight through dieting and weight cutting comfortably then that's on the fighters preference and choice. HW fighters right now are the most unskilled fighters in all aspects of MMA, most of them are one dimensional. Don't even get me started with Tuivasa, who is the one of worst fighters currently on the roster. Every divisions fighters has evolved in terms of skills and level of fighting in the past 10+ years. HW has been stagnant since 2011 with emergence of Cain and DC. Now you got guys who can't even last 8mins fighting & they are not even fighting but waiting for chance to throw their sloppy over hands.

Gane is very overrated. He has a short MT career in France and people talk as if he was a K1 champion.
Good point. Pretty sure a guy like Pat Barry would mop the floor with Gane in MT.

I learned a long time ago to never bet against Jon, but I really do believe he loses this. He's up a weight class, has been out for years, and looked very very mortal at LHW. But, it's Jones and you can never count him out.

Gane got wobbled by Tuivasa.. a guy who really should be fighting at MW but is too fat. I can't remember jones ever getting dropped like this:

If jones high kick lands, Gane is going to sleep.
Jones has a GOAT level chin. Ate flush bombs from Santos and DC like they were nothing.

I hope you delete your account after Jones goes down.

Tai Tuivasa is a huge guy, MW my ass, you are an u athletic nerd who can't comprehend real world things. Dude is a top 10 HW you got no clue.

In response to this match, Gane is one of the better striker however he got the body type that makes the difference. First time Jones is at a phisical disadvantage. Gane is not necessarily better skilled but he is a harder fight then those other guys on the last in the stand up.

gane is easily the best striker jones has faced. best technique and most power. no question... jones will wrestle him and win tho. ngannou outwrestled gane. jones is a much much better wrestler than ngannou.

Gane is a good striker who is incredibly athletic for the joke that is the current heavyweight division. But lets keep it real. His two most impressive wins are against fat dudes who throw big telegraphed swings.

Machida, Rashad, Shogun and Rampage were all very high level strikers when he fought them. He just made them look bad.

However Jones is clearly declined, coming off of god knows how much ring rust and doesn't look to be in great shape physically. I'm leaning towards Gane.

Pretty much this. Gane is just another animal. Especially Machida and Vitor were great striker on their own, but were limited AND much smaller. I won't underestimate Jones ever, but this is going to be tough.

Also factor in ring rust and moving up to HW for Jones

DC
Gus
Shogun
Machida
Rampage Jackson
Glover
Smith
Belfort

I think so, the guys above may be faster (Gus) or have better dirty boxing (DC), but Gane has the best footwork out of anyone and he's a HW.

I think the first minute or so, Jones will try his usual stand up style mixing it up and all. But will soon realize he's having a hard time adjusting since he's not as a fast at HW, and Gane is so bouncy for HW. He'll get hit a couple times and go to a full on grappling approach similar to Francis.

After that I don't know, its 50/50 IMO. Jones submits him or Gane catches him in at some point

Hell no ..

Ya know, salads don’t have a lot of calories but they do help you poop.

With Francis out of the picture, Gane or Blaydes would be HW champ of the UFC.

Salads make you poop better.

To say that neither of them are 'good enough to fight Jones' is an embarrassingly awful take.

Onions are pretty disgusting and can smell like dog Doo

USADA is the best striker Jon has ever faced...almost KO'D him many times

I'm 5'9" with a 69"ish reach. If your footwork is on point you can be a headache for tall lanky strikers, especially in MMA where you have to defend takedowns and drop your hands.

These keyboard warriors that have never touched a glove in their life saying "oh, long reach? shouldn't get touched" are living in fairytale land lol

Mike Tyson!
