Is Gane the best striker Jones has faced?

Gane's size is going to make the fight really interesting. There's only a 3 inch difference in reach, and the 6'5 Gane will happily trade kicks with Jones from afar.
I agree.

With the exception of maybe the OSP fight, we haven't seen a fight where Jon is outmatched at kicking range. And that is a HUGE part of Jon's striking, staying outside of where his opponent cant punch him and scoring points with his kicks and a few long range punches.

Gane is a better puncher and kicker from range and Jon doesn't have KO power at short range.

That leaves Jon the options of fighting in a phone booth (his best option imo) or taking the fight to the ground... if he can get the fight to the ground.

I think cardio determines this fight. Jon has to get Ciryl tired enough for Jon to get him to the ground and keep him there or finish him before Jon gets caught or gets too tired himself and gets fucked up in the stand-up.

Machida was all around way better and faster but gave up too much reach which is far more important

Shogun was way better too but gave up too much reach and was too shop worn with injuries. Again reach was the most important factor.

Vitor had better hands and way faster but gave up more reach than anyone.

Gane is the best striker that is roughly the same height and reach as JBJ.

JBJ struggled vs much lesser strikers in Santos and Reyes simply due to reach.

Both those guys have better grappling than Gane but Gabe is bigger, heavier, stronger.

If JBJ strikes for more than 3 rnds he's done

He is the most successful striker Jon will fight. That doesn't necessarily mean his striking will give Jon the most problems. Gane's striking is effective against opponents whose entire game plan is finding his chin. His jabs and kicks may be lethal and his footwork is second to none but that doesn't change the fact that he is a pressure fighter whose main strength is his cardio. His hands are not the quickest (Yes, having quick jabs doesn't necessarily mean your hands are fast) which becomes evident when he is in the pocket or he is throwing combinations. He is going to have a hard time landing against a willing evader like Jon and even when his jabs do land, he'll have a very hard time capitalizing on it. Jon also has this problem and thus he was getting hit quite easily by Cormier with his dirty boxing.

Machida is the best striker, but Gane is right behind at 2nd. And Machida is nowhere near the size as Gane and has 8" less of reach.

Yeah Machida was the obvious choice surely, he's a more skilled striker than Gane but Gane is bigger of course as you point out.

Machida, Gus, Rampage, Vitor, Shogun, Thiago, and Reyes are all better strikers than Gane.

Ngannou is in the argument for goat. He cleaned out the division. The fight with Gane was razor close. Gane is an elite striker at hw. Jones wont have anything for him at hw on the feet. The sherdog hate for non americans is amusing. Expect Jones to fail in the standup and go for the clinch and takedowns. Something he will also likely fail at unless hes now 120kg.
Okay dude don't make this about nationality bro it's hella cringe. I'm from the USA and I'm rooting for Gane all the way bro I think he is amazing I'm a huge fan.

Gane got wobbled by Tuivasa.. a guy who really should be fighting at MW but is too fat. I can't remember jones ever getting dropped like this:

If jones high kick lands, Gane is going to sleep.
Jones has a GOAT level chin. Ate flush bombs from Santos and DC like they were nothing.

Serious question...how many high kicks have you seen Jon land, let alone KO somebody with, other than on 5'9" DC?

And he didn't even put DC flat out with that kick sir.

"But is fat" doesn't change the fact that he hits like a 265lb man. That shot would have anyone on skates. What a brain dead take. Jones could barely beat no knee Santos and then lost to Reyes who has been brutally finished in his last 3.
Those fighters you named are also 10x more skilled than Tuivasa who is one of the worst fighters to compete in modern MMA.

gane is not a better striker than machida. bigger? yes so is jones

gane is not a better striker than belfort.

jones has the advantage in every area except ring rust

TRT Vitor

Directly after losing to Jones, Vitor did this to Bisping, Rockhold, and Hendo in quick succession.

Shogun (age 29), Gustafsson (age 26), and Machida were also better strikers than Gane.

Vitor definitely the better finisher and just much more aggressive.

did he ever apologise to Bisping for taking his eye?

Tai is way more powerful than DC and Santos, one of the biggest puncher at HW
He is kinda like the Andy ruiz of MMA.

Agreed. But let's not underestimate Jones striking versatility, especially in the clinch. Also Jones experience will be a huge asset for him. Having said that the threat of the takedown will play a bigger part in how well Gane will be able to utilize his striking.

You clearly have no idea what a heavyweight punch does to someone

Really I think the issues are potentially size and Gane being quite similar to Jones in his gameplan.

Gane's jab is REALLY good and if Jon gives him time and space I suspect he will be wearing it all night.

When it comes to cardio, it'll all be settled if Jon can wrestle Gane and actually control him on the ground. People seem to think it'll be easy since Francis did it, but that's a big assumption. It's a different weight class and Jon might end up gassing himself by constantly shooting for takedowns against a much larger opponent that also happens to be the best athlete in the division.

Jones has never fought anyone who hit remotely as hard as Tai

Personally I think Jon's best bet is to try to get Gane tired in the clinch. Then get it to the ground. In theory Jon is better suited to that grueling fight style than Gane and Gane tires first.

Jon is too fucking old to spam double legs.
