How so? I mean, you could weigh his achievements in the sense of what he accomplished being so undersized—but that’s true of Fedor, Hendo, DC, Couture, and a whole bunch of other guys.It depends on your criteria. I could imagine a scenario where Edgar could be top 10 of all time depending on how you want weigh his achievements compared to others. It would be a stretch, though.
I mean you should probably have a top 10 if your only reason for being on Sherdog is to argue about the top 10 lolIsn't the Franklin figure which better embodies the crazy UFC bias there is across these boards when it comes to a fair assesment of MMA legacies and history?
I think so and there are reasons that explain why, even Franklin himself could give you some clues in his interviews, he is very honest and insightful about UFC PR machine..
Believe it or not Im a Franklin fan and actually consider him a top15 all-time MW.
Top5? Holly shit, the fact its seen as a reasonable take by many on here is very telling.
The Frankie vs Cruz comparison is already being adressed here.
Yeah, I live up to the statement that being Cruz and Frankie around the size/weight, if you have a slight understanding of the context in which Frankie made his career (where there was barely even LW division in UFC initially), to consider equal or even inferior the caliber of competition Frankie battled just because you can hide behind a cheap stat like "tittle defenses" is absolutely disgusting.
Finally, being a terrible honest bitchslike this dude @BFoe , who displays obscene bias in alsmost every take he parrots on here, and doesnt have the balls to be frank and straight about such gross obscene bias / ignorance is vomitive. To see him around bragging about "having balls" in top of it is next level of![]()
To start, I'll clarify that I don't personally think Frankie Edgar is a top 10 fighter of all time, so this is just me being a MMA fan lawyer! How so? Pulver fight at HW? uhhh.... Jens Pulver?I don't care about these lists, Edgar is/was a f'ing monster and Pacquiao like in the weight thing, he was champ without cutting and that's gotta be respected. Poor guy was way too small and shout to Pulver and Bas not fighting at HW despite being 203.
Really? Where would you put Edgar on this list? I think he falls outside the top 20 p4p.
- Fedor
- GSP
- Jones
- Silva
- Aldo
- Mighty Mouse
- Cruz
- Khabib
- Cormier
- Hendo
- Volkanovski
- Matt Hughes
- Usman
- Izzy
- Chuck
- Stipe
- Oliveira
- Max Holloway
- Shevchenko
- Nunes
- Henry Cejudo
- Randy
- Vitor
- Conor
- BJ Penn

ok, good. I thought I'd missed some sort of insane MMA history. Yeah I def wish Jens had moved down sooner. Don't know if it would have made a difference but would have been interesting to see.Jens being a tiny LW but fighting there anyway(like Frankie Edgar) and Bas fighting at HW when, at the time, he coulda fought "middleweight" at 200 lbs.

Damn man, hespect for a well-thought out reply. I’d hire you to be my lawyerTo start, I'll clarify that I don't personally think Frankie Edgar is a top 10 fighter of all time, so this is just me being a MMA fan lawyer!
First, the lighter weight-classes have historically been the most difficult weight-classes to compete in, particularly 135-155lbs. Frankie Edgar has fought in all three and done exceptionally well. He was an undisputed champ at 155lbs, with three successful title defenses. In comparison, Khabib is considered the best ever to compete at 155lbs, and not even he could defend more than three times. Furthermore, Edgar fought for the 145lbs title twice, losing a controversial decision in the first fight to another one of the all-time GOAT candidates in Aldo. Although his record at 135lbs isn't great, that is only due to his age and mileage, and he was still able to beat a top contender at that weight-class in Munhoz.
Second, not only has Edgar had a successful career in three of the hardest weight-classes in MMA, his quality of opposition is exceptional. From 2006 to 2021, he's fought almost entirely the best in the world, including a whopping total of 15 current or former champions and/or title contenders in the UFC and WEC. That doesn't even count the many exceptional fighters who never even got a title shot in the UFC and WEC, such as Jim Miller, Tyson Griffin, Spencer Fisher, Cub Swanson, Jeremy Stephens, and Yair Rodriguez, all of whom Edgar has beaten. While it's widely believed that Hendo has the greatest resume of quality of opposition, Edgar's is likely even greater.
Third, while many great fighters such as GSP and Jon Jones have built stellar careers, they both benefitted from fighting in a single weight-class. Edgar, on the other hand, has fought in three of them and won in all three, a feat VERY few fighters at the UFC level have ever accomplished. The only other fighters that have won a fight in three different UFC weight-classes are Conor, Diego, Florian, and Cannonier. Of those fighters, Conor was the only other to win in title fights, but Edgar has him beat in title-fight victories.
So in conclusion, the fact that Edgar has fought in the three toughest weight-classes, while against the best of those weight-classes, and he won more often than not, makes him a top 10 MMA fighter of all time!!!
That would be my argument.

Great post!
Thanks guys! I'm not a lawyer, just a very dorky MMA fan who spends way too much on these forums.<Lmaoo>
Edit: I spent a lot of time looking up info on that long post about Edgar, but I forgot to consider that Vitor has also won fights in three different UFC weight-classes. I could be missing one or two guys, but I think those are the only fighters who have done so in UFC history.
I have never seen you post about anything other than P4P lists which is fine (and I do think you make well informed, insightful takes) but it’s kinda odd you don’t have your own list if you’re gonna go so hard on people lol.Why you say that's the only reason? You were trying to be funny or whats the deal?
I dont spend much time discussing who is #7-10 in a hypothetical p4p list, actually. My reply to this thread was that "he is up there".
When it comes to compare guys of around same size I can give you a definitive answer.
If its abut comparing Frankie with Cormier or Miocic is harder to tell, but between Frankie and a guy of the same size and weight in fight night as Cruz? Yes, I can give you a clear answer.
Which is ridiculous is to consider more respectable, more "ballsy", to just parrot a top10 list filled with obscene bias and ignorance like that @BFoe cheap bitch does, than being honest about the matter.

Mainly replied because @BFoe is one of the best posters on the site and usually doesn’t have problems with anyone at least that I ever see.
