is every rock you sustain in sparring a concussion?

Neurapraxia is the more extreme form of what I described. An impact that is sudden can cause temporary nerve impulse restrictions. Neurapraxia is obviously a prolonged more serious form that's incredibly common in contact sports, but hits can cause similar temporary symptoms that dissipate after a few seconds or minutes.
What you described is the definition of a concussion and then attributed it to something else.

There is a reason you feel shots that jolt your neck down in your legs. I'm sure you've felt blows that don't make you feel any brain fog but make your arms and legs radiate with a weird feeling. That's what I'm describing here, you go sort of bambi legged but your not getting any of the hallmarks of a concussion or any form of brain trauma. Last time I felt it was when I got punched in the side of the neck trying to duck and weave but all I got was a compressed spinal column and a strange feeling radiating across my entire body, took probably 5 - 10 seconds for my legs to resume normal programming, My brain was telling them to move and they weren't reacting accordingly.
I don't disagree with you often and I definitely don't think concussions are anything to make light of but I don't think what I am describing is a concussion...

Edit: I don't think either of us are doctor nor specialists in brain injuries, so I'm happy to disagree and leave it at that rather than us just lambasting each others opinions.

I'm inclined to agree with @Trabaho with this one, getting rocked in sparring or in a bout is more likely your bodies reaction to your neck being jolted by a punch causing your bodies nerve signals to get wacky for a few seconds i.e electrical impulses sent from your brain are interrupted and it takes a few seconds to resume normal programming. It's likely not a concussion. There are different severity of concussion however and minor concussions should be treated as any other concussion with adequate rest before sparring again.
If you feel "off" or "cloudy" after sparring you could potentially have a concussion.
This was a much more technical breakdown of what I was trying to say earlier.

I can honestly say I've never been the same from a few sparring moments in particular. Oddly enough both were lefts, but both were from actual fighters. I never made it to competition but never got knocked out or dropped by fighters and I can say with 100% certainty that two of them tried.

My jaw has never been the same for sure, I was talking shit and walked into a left uppercut that I should have realized he was gonna throw when he said something to the effect of "Come on then."

Can’t say I can recall ever experiencing any weakness in the knees or arms without seeing a star or two.

concussion sysmptoms can have a delayed onset by a few hours. So it’s completely possible you feel weak kneed in the moment but don’t feel a headache until 2-4 hours later which you probably wouldn’t think to associate with the rocking you took.

I’m going to lead off with concussions are serious so don’t get what I’m about to say twisted.

i largely think concussions are a boogeyman for a lot of people. Particularly people looking to get into sports.

most of the threat from concussion comes from the relatively short term threats. Most people won’t end up basically retarded from head trauma…unless you base your style around showing off by letting people punch you in the head as hard as you can…

small concussions can add up sure, but it’s probably like saying you can fill an Olympic pool with a turkey baster.
How they add up, how fast an md how serious they need to be to add up is largely still a mystery. Concussions and their effects are still being studied and analyzed by neuroscientists because while we’ve come to understand a lot more about them in the last couple of decades, there’s still a lot we don’t know.

Probably the most limiting factor in studying the long term effects of head trauma in sports is you really need to get a participant to join the study before any serious involvement in contact sports, so regular testing can be done and changes to the brain recorded. Most parents aren’t going to sign 10yr old Timmy up for such a study because doing so would likely scare them off from the sport, rather than using the study as a metric that can potentially help them and their child make the decision on when to stop.

I love how you ask a question, and a guy that actually fights @pugilistico answers you, and you immediately say you don't buy it.

Dafuq did you ask for ffs?

Many times people just want others to reinforce their beliefs, they aren't looking for actual answers.

Other times, folks ask rhetorical questions that are just for the sake of arguments. ?

Ex: Are religious people less intelligent than atheists?

Such a question is meant to incite arguments rather than answer an actual question.

I ask questions when I want the truth, I guess I'm weird sir lol.

I don't really know what your definition of being "rocked" is, as in I took a kidney punch and I will say it rocked the shit out of me, but I did not get a concussion from it.
I have had three bigger concussions. One was in a street fight were I got my butt kicked, another was lifting weights and I put the bar down to fast and landed on my face, and the last was in BJJ and I took a leg to the back of the head. On this last one, I saw sparks, thought I was fine, finished our round and went home. Then I started feeling it.
From what I understand, seeing sparks is a sign of a concussion. Maybe this is what you meant by "rocked?"
The third one was after the second one. The second one I was messed up for almost four weeks. My pupils wouldn't dilate correctly, headaches, tired (i went back to work but would have to take naps), sleeping and not knowing if I was really sleeping or awake. I did tons of research on concussions, it scarred the death out of me and my wife. The third one happened 9 months after the 2nd. I was down for about a week. The same symptoms as the second, but not as bad and didn't last as long. My wife wanted me to give up BJJ. Instead bought a good mouth guard lol.

All that to say, they do build on each other. No expert, but I do know what it feels like, and am very aware of the symptoms.

Cheers

Bry

Yes. Hard sparring frequency is more predictive of TBI in boxers than fighting frequency. Boxer that only spar hard once a week do WAY better in their later years than those that do 2-4 session a week and get permanently fucked up.
