Like I said, he had lost 2 out of his last 3. You said he was on a "huge streak" at the time, which is factually incorrect. And yes, Gil looked good in the Benson fight. But that was 2 years before the Alvarez fight. And to be frank, the Benson fight was the last time that Gil looked good. In his very next fight, he had a life-and-death battle against an unranked Diego Sanchez -- the same Diego Sanchez that got dominated by unranked Myles Jury a few months later. Everyone remembers the Gil-Diego fight as an entertaining slugfest, which it was, but it was also an indication that Gil was trending downward. And guess what, he never won another fight.1. His loss was a sub to pettis and a split decision to bendo who at least 50% of people felt he won as well -- his sub to pettis was the first time he was subbed in a 26 fight career -- goes to show what level pettis was back then
And I'll amend my previous statement. By the time Eddie beat Gil, Gil hadn't beaten a ranked opponent in more than 4 years (Kawajiri in 2011).
Again, Eddie had a great career. But Gil wasn't a "monster on a huge streak" when they fought in 2015. Gil was a monster back in 2010-2013. But by 2015, he was not the same fighter.
