Is Eddie Alvarez a top 5 LW?

Eddie's Wife the GOAT screamer during his fights!

A fire alarm fire she is though!

Mama Woodley >>>>> Alvarez's wife

Pettis(contender at time)
Gil (was monster at the time on huge streak)
Michael chandler
Pitbull Freire
Shinya aoki
Kawajiri(good win at the time )
Hellboy(good win at the time )
He said impressive win and I'm assuming he meant in the UFC.

He arguably lost those fights highlighted in red. Those were his 2 UFC wins before getting the title shot.

One of the top 10 greatest LW of all time, easy. Really solid list of titles he's won and stellar resume of fighters he fought.

No. I'd say he's probably top 10 all time, but not top 5. If you take into account number of wins against elite competition, bad losses, and how high his highest peak was, I'd say he falls short. Eddie has a ton of good wins, but only a couple elite wins. And I think his case is hurt by his destruction at the hands of Conor; getting beaten down by Cowboy; and his two fights against Chandler, where he got finished in one and, in the eyes of a vast majority of people, lost the second. Also, if you took the very best version of Eddie, there are a bunch of guys I'd still favor over him.

1. Gil was not a "monster at the time on huge streak." Gil had lost 2 of his last 3 fights, hadn't beaten a ranked opponent in 3 years, and, as we've since learned, was falling off the cliff as a fighter.

2. Eddie got finished by Chandler. And in their rematch, a vast majority of people thought Chandler won and got robbed.

3. Pettis was not the same fighter who won the title. Not to be "that guy," but as soon as USADA came into the mix in 2015, Pettis also fell of the cliff (with the occasional win sprinkled in). And even so, at least 50% of people thought Pettis won that fight.

Eddie's had a great career. And the poster saying Eddie only has 1 impressive win is a knucklehead. But let's no exaggerate in the opposite direction. Context matters.

For sure. Man that Fight Matrix ranking needs to put some more respek on Gomi's name

Off the top of my head I would say yes.

I'm driving so I don't feel like posting his record and accomplishments and all that shit but what do you guys think?

Why or why not?

EDIT : Yes, I meant ALL TIME my bad

All time for sure, but lately the game has overtaken him. Mcgregor, Khabib, Poirier, Lee, T ferg would all give him trouble

1. His loss was a sub to pettis and a split decision to bendo who at least 50% of people felt he won as well -- his sub to pettis was the first time he was subbed in a 26 fight career -- goes to show what level pettis was back then

2. True -- give you that

3. I don't think USADA has been as much of an issue for Pettis as has been his dedication and work ethic

Career journeyman with 1 impressive win to become the champ? I sure hope not...

He was champ somewhere or other for most of his career. What do you think journeyman means?

Alvarez is easily a top ten all time LW. I'd agree with the majority in this thread and put him in the top five in terms of his lw career.

Nope. Eddie takes punches like a bubble head.. ain't no GOAT contender, you crack him and make him dance.. the danger is loosing a split decision or some shit against him.

although I agree with your point, Gil was not on a huge streak at the time, he was actually on a losing streak
