Is Eddie Alvarez a top 5 LW?

All time?? Yah, he's top 5. 29-7 record which is pretty dam good (3 of those losses came in the last 2.5 years. UFC champ and Belletor champ. Great win list with RDA, Gaethje, Pettis, Melendez, Chandler, Freire, Aoki, Kawajiri and Hansen. You got Penn, Bendo, RDA, Khabib, Edgar, Cerrone and Gil as the other ones that qualify for top 8 all time. I figure that Eddie is ranked higher than a few of those.

Currently?? I don't know.

You could make that argument. I think if he came to the UFC with more of his prime left it would've been a much more interesting run, but ultimately, he didn't have a lot of prime time left when he got there. It's hard to say, but I say yes.

All-time yes.
I don't know about current, though he does have recent wins over UFC's #5 in two divisions (155 + 170).

He's a good fighter. He can beat anyone any night but he is also very beatable.

He's the Dan Henderson of the LW division. Belts everywhere and has some pretty solid wins

A few of those wins are dodgy split decisions and Chandler's win over him was far more decisive than vice versa.
A wins a win. I don’t think he lost any of those fights tbh. Chandler definitely had the more decisive win. I think he severely underrated and a great lightweight.

Except Eddie has teh jewel of the nile - The UFC belt and Henderson does not. So in comparison Eddie is better

Wow, The Fightmatrix list is TERRIBLE. Obivously that system is completely screwed

To have Shaolin Ribeiro only 2 spots behind Porier LMAO, Hanson above Cerrone, SMH

Learn how to spell Gaethje you fucking can.

Also it wasn’t RDA’s last fight at 155. Quit being a bozo.

learn how to contribute to a thread newb

dont care how to spell gayje

rdas fight against tony was so one sided that it was a non memorable fight to me, all three rda gayje and eddie are over rated and are not top 5 LWs

i thought he was in decline by the time he joined the UFC. He is certainly not top 10 now.

Lol
Rda beat multiple top 5 lightweights. As did Alvarez. Who isn’t overrated in your opinion?

Off the top of my head I would say yes.

I'm driving so I don't feel like posting his record and accomplishments and all that shit but what do you guys think?

Why or why not?
I think the answer is a two-fold one.

One MMA argument is based on W/L rankings. Comes in high.

Second argument is one absolute skill. Colored by relative strengths of historical competitor's skill.

Current appraisal clouded by MMA time-takes-its-toll.

Summary: Never impressed me. Offset by he bested a slew of opponents.<{1-8}>

Career journeyman with 1 impressive win to become the champ? I sure hope not...

Definitely a hall of famer, I think he is out of prime right now.

Did you watch his last two fights?

Well he’s out of his prime and is pretty much shot at this point

I bet he has the best resume of wins in lw history — been around for a long time and has fought a who’s who of contenders

Unfortunately he also has a bunch of losses mixed in which tarnished the overall legacy

Former champ

Definitely top 10, maybe 3-5

Justin gaethje
Rda
Pettis(contender at time)
Gil (was monster at the time on huge streak)

Maybe you can put him in some all time list but is he currently a top 5? Hell no!
