Nah he wouldn't. DC said quite a while ago that ideally his last two fights would be Lesnar and Jones. So those would get priority no matter what Stipe did. DC isn't defending the belt so much as packing his golden parachute and putting the finishing touches on his legacy. Lesnar's the money shot; Jones is the chance to avenge his only loss(es).

The situations aren't the same. Jones hadnt already previously knocked out Gus or Sonnen.
Sonnen definitely deserve shit because he was coming off of a loss to Anderson, but he was supposed to be a last minute replacement for Henderson, and he talked himself into a TUF season with Jon--he was going off of his momentum as the man that "almost" beat the legend Silva. Sonnen can sell some seats with his mouth, and that's why he got the fight.
And Gus and Jones have unfinished business, because many people think that their fight was controversial.

Stipe brings nothing to the table
There's absolutely nothing in it for DC. He'll get more money fighting Brock or Jones, and he has nothing to prove against a guy he knocked out in the first round. There was no controversy with his win.
