Is Cowboy Really a "Legend"?

I'll always remember him as the guy who choked in big fights and had no heart, but could be a "world beater" at times
And McGregor running him over in one round
And Nate beating the shit out of him
And dos anjos smashing him twice
And Pettis smashing his liver
And bendo beating him twice
He's supposed to be a real bastard in person, so fook em
<JonesDXSuckIt>

Yeah thats def true. But fair to say that I also think of the nice winstreak he had going at LW, and the nice streak of finishes at WW

And you don't get to have that many fights in the UFC without being very good, winning a lot, and being entertaining.

Amazing that you're stupid enough to need that explained to you.

yeah and "very good" does not equal legend. thanks for confirming.

I’ve heard too many stories of his behavior outside the octagon for me to consider him at all..

This has made me like him less in more recent years

I totally see why he might deserve hall of fame status though, he put on some amazing fights and over a long period and he is definitely a character

He's not a champion or a GOAT, but he is a legend in the sport. He's like Reggie Miller of UFC.

A known racist who bullies non-fighters in bars and is rude to other fighters family members

WHAT A LEGEND

you mean like how he was used as fodder for Conor.. that is HOF worthy?

the guy is 3-6-1(NC) in his last 10. i guess sam alvey should be HOF as well.

When did Sam Alvey ever fight for the belt? When was Sam Alvey ever ranked as high as Cerrone? How many cards has Sam Alvey headlined? Does Sam Alvey have 20+ post fight bonuses like Cerrone? Did Sam Alvey ever put together an 8 fight win streak in the UFC like Cerrone?

You clearly have no clue what you’re talking about.

He's a legend for the combination of being a crazy outlier in terms of fighting frequency and longevity, while also consistent staying near the top of the division.

yeah cowboy "earned" his title shot by beating a benson henderson that just got ko'd, then by beating makdessi.

He was on a 8 fight winning streak as well. The Makdessi fight was supposed to be against Nurmagomedov also but he pulled out.

You clearly have no clue what you’re talking about.

people like to throw out these hyperbolic terms once someone retires (or dies).

you have sherdoggers acting like they weren't just calling Cowboy a bum a month ago,

and now that he's retired he's one of the best LW's to ever compete? {<huh}

Cowboy ain't a legend. a good fighter but not a legend. if we make an exception for Cowboy being some legendary fighter, then I guess guys like Joe Lauzon & Gray Maynard are also "legends" {<jordan}

Cowboy is a legend. So is Lauzon AND Jim Miller. So is Chris Lytle. Maynard? No so much.

cowboy is a legend because of his highlight reel. Over a decade of fantastic fights. Never the best, but always entertaining. A true peoples champ.

he still earned it with the 2 fights I mentioned.

Pretty sure every single contender in every division is a "legend" at this point. Who cares about that title anymore.

Lets see.

#2 all time most UFC fights with 38
#2 all time most UFC wins with 23
#2 all time most finishes with 16
#2 all time most significant strikes landed
#1 all time most knockdowns
#1 all time most bonuses

I'd say it's safe to say yes.
Stop using facts to make solid points!

He was legendary in fighting on short notice and vs everybody. That is something not all fighters do. he was a fun guy to have around. Rest of his carreer was generic gate keeper imo.

"It depends on what the definition of "is" is." - Bill Clinton

the guy you quoted was too focused on Makdessi, this clown completely disregarded his wins over guys like Alvarez/Barboza during that 8 fight streak.

And Makdessi was a short notice replacement as well lol.

Do you have direct evidence to support your claim that it was the same people a month ago calling him a bum who are now saying he's one of the best ever?

also being called a 'legend' has nothing to do with being perceived as the best
