people like to throw out these hyperbolic terms once someone retires (or dies).

you have sherdoggers acting like they weren't just calling Cowboy a bum a month ago,

and now that he's retired he's one of the best LW's to ever compete? {<huh}

Cowboy ain't a legend. a good fighter but not a legend. if we make an exception for Cowboy being some legendary fighter, then I guess guys like Joe Lauzon & Gray Maynard are also "legends" {<jordan}

I think he's a Legend in terms of the longevity he's had and the recognition/reputation he garnered over the years as a guy willing to fight as much as possible, not in the sense of his accomplishments being on GOAT level.

With that said, recent slide or not, he still has a respectable amount of fights overall in the UFC.

Terrible take, all 3 are legends

It's not about W/L you goof

It simply comes down to personal standards. I hold the term “legend” in the highest regard. Hughes, Penn, Gracie, Wanderlei, Shogun, Cro Cop, Fedor, Noguiera, etc.

Cowboy was an excellent fighter with a distinct personality. He was exciting, and he fought often. Legend? I’m not sure. Probably not in my book, but I could see a case.

He's maintained a reputation as a fighter that is willing to fight all comers at any time, and always put on a good show, win or lose. So by that standard, he could be a legend. Not all legends are A1 Giga-Chads like Conor.

That being said, Conor stole Cowboy's soul with their fight.

Cowboy has some old school attached to him. Even when you lost you was still cool. Like Randy Captain America

anyways the fan base has since changed and he also isnt undefeated so of course he sucks nowadays.

Legend until Masvidal then quickly faded away

He’s the best fighter to never win a belt. He’s beaten the best of the best, he’s a legend.

as much of a legend as Kid Rock is. Take that for what you will.

He fought all the fucking time, supposedly with never feeling it. He either beat ass or had his ass beat. You don't go into the last fight of your career trying to get the most wins in UFC history and be a scrub.

That has to be one of the worst takes I've seen since being here. To be a top 10-15 fighter for years is a legendary feat especially in the LW and WW division. Are you going to say Jim Miller sucks now? You're clearly someone that doesn't know a lot about martial arts.

I....dont know. I used to like him a lot, but he seemed to have too much low fight IQ.

When a shoulder punch from fucking conor McGregor wobbled him, i was out.

Lets see.

#2 all time most UFC fights with 38
#2 all time most UFC wins with 23
#2 all time most finishes with 16
#2 all time most significant strikes landed
#1 all time most knockdowns
#1 all time most bonuses

I'd say it's safe to say yes.
