Is american wrestling getting useless?

You guys complain too much. If a guy uses too much amurican wrestling then you will say he is boring as shit.
Yeah but then whoever says that gets smacked,by a real one.

Kinda think about it there are very fell fighters that come from a college background and are using wrestling as their main weapon in the highest level. Of champions i think usman is the only one right now and even him is favoring a more striking aproach lately, seems like the truly heavy grapplers are the caucasian ones only they seem to be truly heavy on it in 2021.
Is american style wrestling basically dying in the mma scene?

I think the truth is subtle... Meaning that American collegiate wrestlers mostly graduate from university and athletics now have a bit better demand for academics than in the past.

They are smart athletes who have more often than not have EARNED a degree and who more often choose a profession that pays them and keeps them healthy...

There are still a TON of the crazys that flow into MMA.

That's not my fucking fault is it? And at least we clean ar assholes when we shit.

LOL, the fact that too many (probably not enough) Americans are just getting on that train is a bit disconcerting.

If anything can be learned from the Olympics it's that the tug of war between Russian and American wrestling has been going on for decades. This will come full circle and then the Americans will teach the Russians a thing or two.

It's not useless, since it works against other Americans. I mean how many Russian wrestlers are there in HW, LHW or Wmma? Plus, being in top 5, behind a couple of Dagestanis is ok, you can still be popular. Though BJJ is doomed.

From watching ufc for an idea about wrestling since I don't watch it for the Olympics, it seems that the dagestans and Russians are far more superior in the wrestling aspect. Like the saying goes, they're just build differently. More tougher mindset and willing to dig through the trenches when shit hits the fan. Lotta americans don't got that grit. I'm not a wrestling nerd but I learned a lot from watching mma.

Seems like the Americans are doing quite well in wrestling:

No a bunch of top fighters have a background in American wrestling.

also @D 1 Wrestler

Absolutely not. DC is a great example. Little fat guy owned Beast. Beat Stipe once. Gave Jones great fights. For a short, fat dude, his wrestling base made him a monster. Other guys are using it as well. You don't always see their wrestling as well. Chuck was a great example. You never saw his wrestling because people were hesitant to try him at it. For him, it worked as an insurance policy.

Ah, Sherdorks watched a fight with high level wrestlers nullifying one another’s styles…and of course the conclusion is that wrestling is useless.

I don’t know how most of you make it through the day. BJJ is a prerequisite to MMA for 99% of fighters because not knowing it is pretty much guaranteeing a gigantic glaring hole in one’s repertoire is so severe, not knowing it is death. Everyone trains it now, so it is rarely the dealbreaker in a fight in a transparent way. Wrestling - pretty much the same thing. Basic striking - mostly the same thing.

No, the big 3 (bjj, wrestling, Muay Thai) are not useless and you’re either a troll or need to get whatever they have Biden on to appear less senile.

A lot of the great NCAA wrestlers are going to Bellator/PFL since the UFC has deprioritized signing wrestling prospects.

Wrestling was not created in the USA.

An Egyptian burial chamber mural, from the tomb of Baqet III dating to around 2000 BC, showing wrestlers in action, and subsequently showcasing a highly developed ancient martial art, containing some distinct manoeuvres which could be described in terms of the present-day Judo throwing techniques, freestyle single and double leg takedowns, Sambo and BJJ par terre techniques.[7][8]
