Is Alvarez really Khabib's kryptonite?

The biggest bullshit sherdog tries to sell you is that Alvarez is a great wrestler.

He could barely hold down Pettis of all people.

There's zero evidence to suggest his wrestling is good enough against khabib or any other good wreslers.
How about his last fight or vs Melendez dork

You can never count Eddie Alvarez out of a fight.

But nah son

"I am Khabib’s Kryptonite,” Alvarez said on Instagram (via MMA Fighting). “You all know it. It’s the elephant in the room. I’m the guy in the lightweight division, the only guy, that can beat Khabib. Everyone knows it. He can run to Georges [St-Pierre] or run to Conor [McGregor] or run to whoever, I’m the guy. I’m the guy to put that ‘1’ in that loss column.”

I think that by September, if Tony and Conor are still out, its either him that get the title shot or Lee/Barbz winner fight Alvarez for the title shot. Or most probably if Barbz win, I think the UFC will put him against Alvarez 1st, but if Lee wins, he'll fight for the title.

Anyway, is Eddie really the potential "1" of khabibs record?
Brain damage after all the wars he has had, i mean the guy got outwrestled by mcgregor ...

To be fair to Eddie he tried to take Conor down 3 times.
they were the lamest TD attempts ever seen though - he was giving up on it practically before he'd started. to this day that fight still looks really off to me.

Conor beat this dudes head in (embarrassing loss) and after 1 win he thinks he should be back in a title fight.

Iaquinta has a good shot at beating Alvarez.

Too many wars (he just had another).

Eddie isn't a great offensive wrestler, but he does have very good takedown defense.(Watch the 2nd Chandler fight.) If he sticks with his movement with in and out darting lead rights, he has a good chance. The fight with Mcgregor says virtually nothing about his chances against Khabib.

Chandler took Eddie down like 20 times between their two fights.
I don't like Eddie's chances.

Alvarez's chin has saved his ass a number of times. His skills don't match his heart. He would be brutalised.

I can't see any way he imagines that he could win

Yea he is, but Khabib is batman. Alvarez has NOTHING for khabib.

Which is why he's never been taken down in the UFC and Div 1 all American Gaethje was 0-3 and Eddie was 2-3 on TDs

Eddie is a nightmare matchup for Khabib. 4th or 5th round KO

Incorrect sir, Gaethje was 0-1 and Eddie was 1-2 on TDs that night.

Yes his takedown defense is very good, but you're ignoring that wrestling consist of more than not getting taken down.

Alvarez's UFC Takedown attempts:
Cerrone - 0-5
Gil - 3-11
Pettis - 6-15
RDA - 1-3
McG - 0-3
DP - 1-4
Gaethje - 1-2

That's 12-43 putting him at 28% TD accuracy which is far from great. He doesn't have a great shot from the outside and relies heavily on securing the clinch from strikes to get in and the cage to stall and assist with the TD. These facts make his vaunted wrestling ability overrated. We wouldn't say Aldo has great wrestling just because he never gets taken down; Instead we would say he has great takedown defense because we recognize that TDD is only one aspect encompassed by a larger grappling art.

How about his last fight or vs Melendez dork

what about the Melendez fight, what kinda of superb wrestling did he show in that fight at all. I mean sure he was tough after getting his face busted and managed to squeeze out 2 controversial boring rounds.

Truth is he looked like absolute crap against both Melendez and Pettis, there were arguments that he lost both fights. Which was why that title shot was super suspect.

He could have very well been 0-3 in the UFC against Cerrone, Pettis and Melendez

I think Khabib beats Alvarez, but I'd like to see the actual fight instead of just handing Khabib the victory by consensus.

Given that Ferguson is hurt, I think Alvarez makes sense for Khabib's first defense, and I think a win over a fighter of his caliber would greatly strengthen Khabib's claim on the belt.

Alvarez is the most under rated fighter on Sherdog but I still don't think he'd beat Khabib.
