I agree the episode felt flat. Compare that to the reveal of Omni man being exposed to Mark. It was an all action episode that lacked the weight behind it's punches.
I think this season would've been better if the arch culminated into the invincible war, just as how in S1 everything was tied around Omniman's reveal. They should've fleshed out the war in 2 episodes and ended it with Conquest's introduction.
They had this overarching question of whether Mark will kill or not this whole season, and when he finally battles that moral quandary again (with the same guy from last season mind you), his decision gets ripped away from him after a battle with a guy he already beat to death?
Considering the huge deal it would be to have multiple marks causing havoc in the world, it felt so rushed. It felt like another tuesday. As powerful Mark is supposed to be, even weaker off brand marks should be the strongest forces on earth and so many of them got off scene deaths by heroes we never even seen before. Who the hell was the wolf guy and he kills a Viltrumite Mark? Knock offf blue beetle kills the other viltrumite mark off screen?
Mark proved he's a bitch and Cecil was right. There are multiple hims running around wrecking havoc and killing untold numbers of people, and he's not doing shit because one might come and find his girlfriend? He really isn't ready to be a hero yet.
We also finally got to see Immortal fight an opponent near his level and he gets murked easily lol. Without Omni man the Guardians must've sucked. In fact the entire planet sucks. They should've gotten Seismic and the dragon guy to fight the Invincibles because they caused the gaurdians more trouble than they did the Invincibles.
For that reason I thought the Invincible War would be stretched out to two episodes and the season would end with the introduction of Conquest. Now we're getting the conquest fight next episode, which is cool, but I hope they do it justice. The conquest introduction also didn't feel that powerful either.
I think they fucked up the power scaling and the overarching plot of this story if I'm being honest. We saw Mark get his ass kicked multiple times but lower level heroes after he got absolutely handled by Anissa, and to be old someone worse is coming, referring to Conquest. This season was supposed to set up that fight, but instead it seems Mark wasn't ready to fight another version of himself, much less a higher ranked Viltrumite. Mark wins that fight based on the comics, but that and the fact Viltrumite Marks get killed off screen by nobodies undermines their whole threat.
The whole point of the Viltrumite threat is that one is powerful enough to subjugate an entire planet alone, but we just saw multiple get killed by earth-level heroes. They should've spent more time fleshing out their fights to explain how they were killed. And not make it so easy and show the amount of destruction they caused.
I thought Jonathan Banks was supposed to voice Conquest but turns out he voiced some random hero named Brit.
