Opinion Internet is a utility. Govt should provide free internet for all homes

Oh it is funny see Repubistan tards bitching and moaning about something that would help them. Internet service becoming a utility means that they would have to provide high speed service out in rural areas. Much like electricity becoming a utility lead to electrical lines being ran all over. Had electricity not been a utility private energy companies would not run electrical lines out to rural areas. Because running and maintaining the lines would be unprofitable.

But what if I told you that white conservatives are also poor? Still for it?

Yes stupid. This would benefit poor white rural people who are likely conservatives. It would benefit them the most. And I am for it.

The government cannot provide anything for free since the government itself has no resources on its own.

I don't think thats true. Look at how epically stupid you are for instance.

I , for one, can't wait until the day I can access the web.

I think a poll should be made for if Andrew cuomo is the worst popular governor ever

Remember when we had books, paper, and pencils? I bet we learned a lot more back then than the kids today
I bet you’re full of beans. Try walking into a job interview and saying “I don’t know how to use a computer but I can write in cursive”

At least during the pandemic, students should be granted free internet for learning purposes. There’s millions of students who don’t have and can’t afford proper internet access or connection and their education is suffering. It’s no fault of their own they can’t attend in person, it’s fault of the adults who messed this up and put them in this situation. As a student myself I have no such problems however can’t imagine the struggle of those who can’t afford the facilities. I know fellow students who had to share internet during classes. Covid really exposes and widens these inequalities quite unfairly for students from low income families.

This is really hurting rural school kids were we have no internet access at all at home. Doesn't need to be free just make sure service is available at every home same as phone and electricity.

Thanks bro. It’s about time someone brought race into this conversation.
No, but schools could perhaps offer some sort of very basic connectivity that is limited to a loaned chromebook for extremely impoverished kids on a case by case basis. Ports and addresses used by recreational apps and websites like Netflix, videogames, social media, porn etc would be blocked, or more precise only certain nessecary things will be whitelisted.
so you would give the poor kid a computer and internet but take an extra step to block him from Netflix? That just seemed cruel.
maybe with a tax on PrOnHub to pay for the bandwidth ;) .
This is why we need a dislike button.

A really cheap computer, bandwidth is expensive and streaming services eat it up like crazy. For all we know the welfare collecting dad would be binge watching netflix all night on it.

This should have been an apt time to fund/implement a national fiber infrastructure initiative which would have acted as stimulus much like the road/highway build up by the PWA from the New Deal 100 years ago. This doesn't mean that government would handle internet access itself directly. With the infrastructure in place this would abolish the main barrier of entry preventing more competition in the ISP market space.
