Leaving aside the fact I actually coach. Or the level I completed at. You do realize I can and do talk to the coaches of several medalists right?
I’ll be at practice coaching tonight and Thursday, Sunday.. Then in 3 weeks I’ll be be coaching every day for several months. (That school system wrasslin you’re so jealous of).

But yeah, I’m a casual fan because you can’t actually understand how technical and impressive a 6 time world champ is because he doesn’t look “cool” enough.

He’d still probably win a bunch, like all of the top freestyle and Greco guys due to the fact that he, and them are very good athletes competing in the deepest styles in the world. If any of them went to beach wrestling it would be similar to what happens when the US goes to the Pan Am games without Cuba.

I think it is the opposite; Jordan Burroughs is far more entertaining to watch than Dake.

Men's FS will start later today (for us). What do you think about Mohammad Mokaev? He is a good MMA prospect, but as for wrestling against non-British wrestlers... he got tech-falled in his first match at the Junior Euros. I don't see him having more success here

So far 5 medals for Team Turkey but only in the lower weight classes. A little bit of a hope for the future. Rooting hard for my man @ 97 kg Aktürk. One of the last wrestlers who are successful at turkish oil wrestling and regular mat wrestling.

yes he lost 10-0 at JR euros but anyone backed by the mighty UK system is gonna go out like that, even really good wrestlers from good countries get tech'd now and then... so I dunno....

likewise he has a good MMA record but it's hard to say what it means until gets into a major org and faces some notable proper tough guy... starting out in brit regionals as a wrestler is like starting in easy mode with a L20 character. Also what's the point of getting a 22-0 ammy record anyway...

yes he lost 10-0 at JR euros but anyone backed by the mighty UK system is gonna go out like that, even really good wrestlers from good countries get tech'd now and then... so I dunno....

I don't understand his thought process. I believe he had a training camp in Ukraine before the Jr Europeans, which is cool; although, he is literally from a republic with a myriad of internationally successful gyms with the best coaches.... but he chose to go to the U23 worlds and train in Manchester... he probably won't make it to a medal match, but defeat some non-wrestling country representatives

He will have a good mma career though

I have nothing but respect for the Womens Italian team. They produce results with their own athletes. Don’t make excuses and… are single handily responsible for the mens medals over the last decade.
After all, imagine if the Cuban Chamizo had married an American wrestler or other European national. They probably don’t even get their 97 Cuban medalist last year

On a more serious note. The US womens u23 team is far less talented and skilled than both the cadet and junior teams. The best junior level athletes like Walker and Blades are jumping straight to seniors.

The only match I was irritated by was the Indian wrestler pretending to shake hands at beginning of second period then using that grip to shoot off whistle. There’s a distinct line between “tactics” and hard wrestling and straight up sketchy ass shit

Hi hi hi she started wrestling in my first gym. A Greco Roman gym in Savona with also freestyle and female wrestling programs.

Oh damn, I’d forgotten that Realbuto’s little brother who wrestled at UNI got a spot on the Italian U23 team. A couple other names seemed familiar as well.

Mokaev got lucky, he didn't even have to wrestle and got an automatic place in the quarter-finals due to his 1/8 opponent pulling out

He went 10-6 with Hungary's own Dagestani mercenary so that's something.

Side note: the number of Dagestanis repping other countries is reaching ridiculous levels. I know some people are OK with that because 'I want to see only the best' and 'it helps grow the sport' but if anything I think it's a reflection of poor health of the sport, where more and more of the whole field are coming from just one small corner of earth; and a charismatic guy like Chamizo might increase the profile of the sport and even the participation (a bit) for their patron federation's countries, but those guys... nope.
