That private club defense doesn't quite work against discrimination. It really depends on the state and their laws. The club might be private but the membership/recruitment is open to public. Purpose of club also comes into play. Was it started to discriminate or not? America used to have "private" swim clubs that didn't allow non whites to swim there and it was deem unlawful because their membership was open to the public. American housing laws allowed for some types of discrimination while prohibiting discrimination based on race. There are small communities that are for elderly and most of the time the law covers that type of discrimination.

Amish people are mainly white but that is by circumstance and there is no discrimination against minorities choosing to convert to their sect. There are Black and Hispanic Amish through adoption. It's rare but it isn't frowned upon.

Those return to land people could have got their white colony by just having their club on that spot. The demographic of the area is about 90 percent white. I think they purposely announced it online to get donations or raise awareness to their project. I believe it is a gamble to see if people will donate online to their cause. Communes aren't new in America and they fail all the time. There are successful ones but they usually fizzle out within a few decades when those people get old or their children leave. You can look up Islamberg as an example.
