In 2008 we were contemplating Anderson vs cung le

In 2008 I felt people were really overrating Frank Shamrock & therefore the value of Le’s victory

no doubt Frank was a pioneer in the UFC. The SF version was all smoke & mirrors IMO. He was pretty fragile by that time & a real shadow of his former self

not to discredit Le. Just that a win over 2008 Shamrock was over hyped IMO

Cung le had some good fights. Show man.

How could anybody think that? Because they were basing the prospects on 2008 knowledge of both fighters, not 2021 knowledge of how their careers progressed.

Cung was the great asian hope, people were and still are desperate for an Asian superstar fighter. Crazy given the history of martial arts how few people from Asian are competitive in mma. Just proof that traditional martial arts are pretty much useless without a strong western base. And before anyone mentions it, yes Thai boxing works. Why more Thai's are not in the ufc? probably because they compete in that sport and there are not big enough for most ufc weight classes.

Also they have no wrestling or really any grappling aside from the Thai clinch and trips, whereas mma is a grappling dominated sport.

I think the Wanderlei match showed you Cung wouldnt be able to deal with that kind of pressure.

Guys like Mousasi, Jacare, Lindland and Filho at various points around 06-10 would have been much bigger tests.

Cung le still doesnt get the respect he deserves. He was old at the time he statted in the ufc. Though he never had a great fight iq becuse he never let up on his showy style. Look at the wand fight. That couldve gone either way but cung couldnt finish first.

Cung did take out Frank....Cung was a tricky style
Yeah, he wasn't bad. Strikeforce was a respectable org, and he was a champ there. Earned FOTN against Wanderlei, and KO of the Year against Franklin.

In 2013 Anderson was contemplating Cung Le just to duck Weidman

The GSP fangirls were wishing and hoping that somebody could beat Silva, so to push their narrative, every decent MW outside of the UFC (and multiple new UFC MWs) were the guys to beat him. This happened for 7 years straight.

Similar to how they hate Jones, and everyone can beat him too. Haters gonna hate. Must be something about their "explosiveness" that garners so much hate from the GSP fanatics.

Is normal.

I mean, Cung DID knock Ace's block off, so it doesn't seem that far fetched.
