Interesting points on both sides of the debate here. Feel like Panda is looking into it too deeply; it's not farfetched for these to be rigged in some way; it's also not farfetched that this is just the result of Jake picking past their prime and smaller fighters. I feel like his boxing skill hasn't improved, this looked like shit all around. The "fake" feeling I get from the announcers announcing is probably moreso recognition that they're hyping up something not worth hyping.
Fights get rigged. I never doubted that.
However, the skill is very much real.
He's a better boxer than these guys. Why rig fights against guys you basically cherry picked to beat? If you really wanted to go that route, why not just pay a few mid level broke boxers to dives?
These guys aren't forgetting how to fight. That's what happens when you compete against a better opponent. It makes you hesitant and takes you out of your game. If there's a skill gap, it's very easy to look bad. But that's a matter of fight iq and knowing what's being done strategically and technically to prevent a fighter from fighting their fight. They're picking these guys apart in the gym, dissecting their every tactic and tendency, bringing in sparring partners to replicate what they do on an even higher level than they do.
There's levels between MMA boxing and pure boxing. That's all it comes down to.
I would suggest to analyze the fight more closely a couple times if you didn't notice improvements. Focus specifically on footwork, lateral movement, defensive tactics and strategy
Technique in the jab, both to the body and head, left hook. Versatility of tools and how they're used. Overall fight IQ and traps that were set. Pacing and timing.
He had some sloppy moments, but overall this is the best he's looked.
To anyone who can't see clear improvement, I think there's something wrong / should go back and watch it again.
Doesn't mean he's a world beater
But it was a good performance.
