I'm sure it's been said before... but 294 was a catastrophic error by Volk

I don’t blame volk for taking the fight. He has a family and supposedly (rumored-Luke Thomas estimates it was this much) got paid a couple million total for the fight. That kind of money for one mma fight doesn’t happen for many guys very often. Financially smart decision and this after all is prize fighting and ultimately wise these guys (at least the best) fight.
From a legacy standpoint what does this prove? Thst he can’t beat the best all around mma fighter currently fighting? That he is what the second or third best p4p fighter right now? Doesn’t hurt what he has done in fw. He is 36 or will be very soon. I mean yeah he may have got concussed which is never good and he probably won’t ever achieve lw champ status, but overall doesn’t hurt his fw history and for an aging fighter who probably doesn’t have many years left for a great monetary gain in one fight. It wasn’t as great had it could have been had he won, but in reality he didn’t really lose other than the fight.

So let me guess you would definitely rank Anderson Silva way above GSP for these exact reasons. Silva wasn't scared to go to LHW and beat ass, while GSP was so scared of Silva that he waited until the weakest MW champ ever in Bispong to finally move up for a 1 hitter quitter.

PED failure and GSP avenged all his losses so I have him above Anderson personally. Bisping wasn't the weakest MW champ it's probably Sean Strickland to be honest at this point, but that may change. I remember less than 4 fights ago when Sean was winning via jabbing backwards. Bisping had only lost to Rockhold and PED cheats before he lost the belt. He actually had also fought at LHW and was a rankings main stay for years. he should have lost via KO to Anderson though, that knee was a KO every day of the week.

You can also make this argument for the co-main as well.

Usman coming off knee injuries, moving up a weightclass, on short notice, against a top fighter.

Both guys did a favor for company and tarnished their legacies because of it

Nobody "tarnished his legacy". Bunch of dramaqueens here.

Volk lost 2 of his last 3 after a long winning streak a few more losses and he becomes the Tony Ferguson of FW.

So Strickland was the weakest MW champ ever when GSP moved up to MW?

Then you reel me back in admitting Silva beat his one eyed ass.

To me? As in any sport it speaks to retirement. Wanted to give it his last best shot and he did. Props.

And here we go!
There is a reason why weight classes exist. Having a guy going up in weight class, should never be giving a title shot. Only time it ever made sense was GSP and Silva, but even then GSP should have fought some top 10 guys at MW first. But a guy moving down a weight class as champ, should be able to get an immediate title shot.

Let me digest this. Do I need a full training camp or fake an injury? I jest.

Strickland is 2-2 in his last four but has an overall respectable record of 8-2 at MW.
Bisping is also 2-2 in his last four, 18-6 at MW and has only lost to people who have fought for belts or held belts across multiple divisions and kept losing when we actually had title elimators to known PED cheats. He defended his belt against Hendo(not the greatest win, but he also only had one eye) before dropping it to GSP in a back and forth fight initially. The Gastelum fight was booked against his medical suspension and shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

Strickland hasn't defended and has had issues with ranked guys prior to this fight by losing to 2/3 ranked fighters he previously faced in the top 10. HIs best win was Hermanson in a split. He beats 10-15 guys but struggles top 5-10 pre Izzy. His performance is similar to Bisping vs Rockhold to win the belt except his resume is nothing compared to him.
AT this point in their careers Bisping >Strickland every day of the week.

If you mean GSP, he has the GOAT resume at WW still to this day. He won the MW belt and immediately vacated so I don't really count him that highly. I wouldn't really count him as a MW champ just more of this double champ crap we have seen before.

Dude is feeding his family and is one the best FWs to ever do it. Hope I get a chance to make such an error one day.
I don’t get the “he’s feeding his family” argument. Volk is already a multi-millionaire and has more opportunities to earn many more millions. He didn’t need to take this fight.

No matter how poorly I think of the UFC, they always find ways to make the sport worse for the athletes. It's like a super power Dana White has.
Fighter gets injured and pulls out. Fighter takes fight on short notice, underperforms, and gets paid mightily. This is Dana's fault.

Is one of those fighters Gamrot? No? This is Dana's fault.

How do you know that he didn't need to take this fight? Maybe he only cares about the money. Maybe he just wants to compete and doesn't care about legacy. I'm sure fans want to see him protect his legacy but that's not Volk's problem.

Bad decision because he lost. Imagine if he won though? I respect him for fighting pretty much ANYONE. Hopefully this doesn't affect him too much when he fights again at 145

Yes it was his fault, but I think it also hurt the ufc by damaging his marketability, and they would've been wise to have avoided this
Yes it was a massive error on volks part. It's rewritten history and changed most people's outlook on the first fight. The narrative arguably is now that Volk wasn't that good in the first fight, rather Islam was compromised.
