Media "I'm not done fighting." - Chris Weidman

Weidman has nothing left to give. The greatest asset he had was his wrestling and that's long gone now. The guy has never had the greatest cardio to begin with and it's gotten worst. His chin is shot too

Please make it stop. All pro athletes have to understand that their time in sports will come to an end at a time when they're still relatively young in life. It's a weird thing to be done professionally in your career of passion at such a young age. But it is what it is. The consequences of hanging around too long in the fight game are dire. You're not getting crossed over and dunked on like it's basketball. You're getting beat to a pulp.

Bro he is only 39. Dame became a champ around that age or when he turned 40.

Just throwing this out there Prime Chris Weidman would have got his ass beaten by prime Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, TrtVitor, or Michael Bisping.
Prime Weidman easily beats Bisping and has enough TDD to defend shots from Sonnen and better boxing to beat him on the feet. Henderson is a toss up, and TrTVitor ends with him brutally KO'd.

He was a pretty solid champion. The Machida win went a long way with me, after the two flukish Andy wins. Rockhold merked him into gradual obscurity though.

His title fights were absolutely flukish. Even "The Chris" meme comes from Anderson's interviews where he is asked "what's your ideal outcome to this fight" and he responds "The Chris.. new champion!". The interviewer says "really?" and he replies "I tired, man". This fully explains the Luke Rockhold level of carelessness. And yes Luke's win was also flukey.

for fucks sake man. go spend time with your family. do you want to be able to remember your loved ones names in 10 years or not?
Kind of a catch 22

Because he also wants to support his family and make sure they all have money in a few years

I don't pity people that don't care about their own health when they have the option/choice to do something about it.

If he dies, he dies gif is appropriate here.
Imo this is the correct attitude to have.

We don't personally know any of these people or have any stake in how their lives turn out. I'm sure none of us wish harm upon them but I'm not going to waste my energy feeling angry or frustrated when they decide for themselves to continue fighting.

It's really sad how many mma fighters end up like this at the end of their careers.

yea but unless hes a complete moron he should be a millionaire already. and he can easily make a more modest living as a coach/training partner now

Like I said, it's a double edged sword.

This is the most money he can possibly make for the rest of his life, most likely.

When it comes to creating security for himself and his family, it's understandable why it's hard to walk away. Even though by all accounts, he should.

He's putting his body and mind on the line for the sake of his future and family. Which is noble, stupid but noble.

His legacy went from one of the greatest fighters to ever live, to.... leg explosion guy... the most gruesome injury in sports history.... I can understand his desire to want to rewrite that history, but he is done.

That wasn't the fighter Chris Weidman who stepped into the octagon last time. that was just a crippled man. A stationary target for brutal leg kicks due to the fact he has no mobility, given one of his legs got exploded not too long ago. UFC please have mercy and cut this guy.

No.

His leg exploded but his career was already on a downturn well before that.

Nontheless he will always be remembered for taking Anderson out. That is his legacy.

Weidman was arguably one of the best MW's ever during his prime. He outstruck Machida for 5 rounds on the feet. Great wrestling and elite grappling.

I think that Luke fight just took part of his soul. Doesn't seem like he was ever the same afterwards.

The chris's problem is that he married some latina broad who spewed out a whole litter of critters to feed and they all accustomed to a certain life style now.
Mom will walk with the kids so fast that chris's head will spin if he tries to take a job as a gym teacher now. So whatever a gym teacher pays, cut that in half, and yes, he will be broke. So sad what people do because they believe having a family is the path to "love". Path to doom for the chris.

Not when putting your body and mind on the line could possibly mean you drooling and needing your family member to hand feed you before you reach 50 years old and have another 25 to 30 years to go. Then you will just be a burden to them, the 6 digits or low 7 digits amount of money earnt means shit if it turns out this way.

Fighters that keep fighting pass their prime WHILE getting KOed in the process is just stupid, nothing noble about it. It's okay to fight pass your prime, if you taking minimum damage between the losses.
