Ring rust and a long layoff make an immediate title shot relatively out of the question, although I think stylistically Islam vs Shavkhat is one of the best fights we could see

As it stands, Mak vs Morales and Shavkhat vs Usman are the fights to make imo

If Usman slows his momentum it proves he isn't washed and gives Shavkhat a chance to shake off the cobwebs and is high profile enough to warrant a title shot since he would've otherwise gotten one without the injuries

I think there is time for a #1 contender fight. Shavkat should fight in January/February of 2026 for a #1 contender bout. If Islam is out until May/June, he can get his title fight.

HOWEVER, Shavkat is his own worst enemy: The problem Shavkat has, is that to get a title fight, you usually need to be more active. In other words, you might need to take a #1 contender fight, and then be willing to fight 4 months later against the champion. This is because the champion gets to decide when/where they fight, and it's up to the challengers to accept their title shot, or refuse it and lose their spot in line to another contender.

Fuck Shavkat and the horse he rode in on. A win over Garry a year ago doesn't warrant shit, and his inactivity compounds that.

Morales, Prates and Garry are all fighting often and deserve the rewards. They're winning and gaining face. Personally, I'd give the title shot to Morales. You know Prates is just getting taking down and humped by Islam until it's over. I'd love either Prates or Garry to beat Colby into retirement while Morales gets his crack at gold.

Brady and JDM would be a good test to see which one still belongs in contention. Usman and Edwards are done at the top of 170lbs. Belal should be hunting a fight with one of them or Colby too.

If ufc is smart, they'll make Usman vs Shavkat. Thats a big fight and very interesting to look forward to but i dont think the old boogeyman is brave enough to risk fighting the new boogeyman of the division
