The fact of the matter is that Islam hasn't proven himself as much as other fighters. He is known because of Khabib. He needs to prove himself and to do that he should be fighting people close to his rank and not no names or calling out people way ahead of him.

They are literally 3 spots away in the rankings (#11 vs #14). If others refused to fight guys 3 spots away there would hardly be any fights made.

After the Pettis win he said he didnt immediately want a higher ranked opponent for his next fight, but when buzz about possibly fighting Makhachev began, he switched to targeting either Iaquinta or the winner of Felder & Hooker (both of whom also ducked Islam)

I wouldn't say it would get someone ALOT of attention. He doesn't have any ranked wins and we've already seen him KO'd inside the octagon. But from what research I've done he's also difficult to book fights for because he only wants to fight in Russia or Europe. Says it cost a ton of money to go and set up a camp at AKA and train there. That along with him only looking at top 15 opponents is a struggle. I'm not saying it isn't time to see against a top 15 fighter or anything, but he needs to go take a fight in the states. The UFC can certainly give guys 1 option if they really wanted to push Islam. He should of been booked on the main card of Khabib/Ferguson.

He's probably looking for a fast track to a title shot or establish himself as a legit name and having back to back wins over pettis and somebody like Felder/Hooker/Barboza/Lee would possibly get him a fight against the top 5.

That sounds a lot better for his career than fighting Islam to prove he's top 10 and then fighting a top 10 guy
