I've been saying this for a long time, but then I get delusional Fedor fans claiming those 19wins were against top fighters and should count as title defenses. I think I explained clearly why beating Jones doesn’t go light years towards cementing anyone as HW GOAT: Jones is completely unproven at HW. He’s 35 years old, and all we can really say about him at HW is that he was able to quickly out-grapple and submit a complete white belt level grappler.
And look, to do so as quickly as he did is still impressive. I’m not trying to take that away from him, I’m just keeping things in perspective. Jones has no significant list of HW accolades to draw a conclusion like you’re trying to draw.

In boxing the top guys don't always fight the top guys. The same thing happens in mma. The difference is you view the ufc title as the pinnacle and it isn't. Instead of busy fights vs good/great fighters we get rematches and guys fall out of peak and never get a shot.

Stipe was knocked out 3 times. I know he defended his belt a number of times, but he did it against washed up fighters. I have a hard time putting Stipe ahead of Francis. It's just my opinion.
