If Mayweather does fight Cotto...

I think not. I think this KO of Hatton probably gives Floyd some confidence in his hands. Williams is a busy fighter which kind of leaves him open. I say Floyd wins by countering and occasional inside work.

To beat Williams you have to hurt him. Tony couldn't hurt Paul enough to win decisively with over 600 punches. You think Floyd is going to with 480 and 2 inches less of height than Tony, not to mention less reach?

With stilts, sure. Cotto stands a better chance because he'd jab the big man hard enough to bust through them punches (rather than cover up and wait for a counter) and hit him in the guts until something gives. But it might not work, as that's what Tony tried. Cotto's got a harder punch, and would have to double his normal workrate to win.

Margarito is a punching bag though, Floyd isn't going to be fooled because Williams throws tons of punches. I haven't seen anything that would make me say Floyd by KO, but Floyd wins a wide decision.

Yeah.... PBF would definately have a lot of trouble with Williams, not that I would count him out, but that guy is a stylistic nightmare for him. That said, Cotto has the right style to beat him, and thats a fight I would LOVE to see. The most ackward of the WWs, the biggest with the highest workrate vs the the strongest, toughest most aggressive pressure fighter. Awesome fight.

It's not about being "fooled" by tons of punches. It's about being out-worked by a guy you can't KO, from range, who has speed, and is going to be hard for you to hit upstairs.

And you saying Tony got hit a lot doesn't help. He got hit a lot and kept coming, threw more punches than Floyd typically throws nowadays in a shorter amount of rounds, with more power, and still lost.

I think Floyd picks apart Cotto for a UD but like every Mayweather fight I'd be rooting against him

I think Floyd can/will get the decision over Cotto. When Cotto fought Mosley, even the ringside announcers were like "MOSLEY, THROW AN UPPERCUT ". Mosley remembering to use the uppercut, could have made a difference.

Floyd will not make that mistake. Pot shots from all kind of angles and uppercuts will be in abundance against Cotto.

I think the key is Cotto has a damn fine chin. He can take a lot of hits and keep coming. He can apply pressure, but as we have seen, Floyd can deal with pressure and even wrestling (aka holding and wrestling champ Hatton).

I don't think Cotto has the style to beat Floyd. Cotto's jab and 1,2 punch combo are dangerous, but he is too turtle like. Floyd will out maneuver him and find holes in his high hands defense. Cotto does not have the hand speed, foot speed, or sheer power advantage to stop Floyd (I think).

In the end, finesse and ring generalship, will probably decide it. Provided Cotto's chin holds up from the inevitable pot shot pounding he will get.

Floyd should fight Cotto. Cotto is another undefeated champion that beat Mosley. You can hype the hell out of that fight. I can almost see 24/7 showing it now. But more importantly, that will be another HUGE payday for Floyd, so that just has to be a motivator.
