If Jones beats winner of Gus/Rumble, who is actually next?

So if he fights the winner of Gus/AJ and wins, you wouldn't want to see him fight the loser of Gus/AJ?

I want to see both fights.

Also, I think Jones-Davis would be exciting.

Davis has never been stopped, so I think Jones might try to finish him.

Plus, they have legitimate beef, so it would bring out the unsportsmanlike behavior in Jones that I enjoy.

This is why I've never understood people who say they don't want to see top contenders fight because it supposedly "kills one of them off". I want to see all the top guys fight one another.

With guys fighting only twice a year and sometimes not even that, there isn't a lot of time to waste. Gus vs Rumble will be only the 2nd fight Gus has had in almost a year and a half since losing to Jones.

While there is no way I'd want to see a guy get a title shot coming off a loss, I'd have no problem at all with the loser of Gus/Rumble getting a shot if he then put a couple of wins together.

Really? Mr. Wonderful has nothing to bring to Jones other than talk, Phil is destined to be a gatekeeper always in the talk but never a real part of the conversation.

Cormier will be back as top contender by the end of the year, beginning of 2016. I see him fighting 2 of the following Rashad, Phil, Gus, Bader and when he beats both of them he'll be ready for his second shot against whoever the champ is then (still calling Rumble to upset Jones, but not necessarily to keep it on rematch).

It'll probably be the winner of DC vs Rumble/Gus. There aren't too many real contenders in the LHW division. Expect Jon to have to face Gus and DC again, and Rumble will be in there somewhere. Jon is trying to not only be the best LHW that there ever was, he's also trying to make the gap to try and reach him that much harder. Beating all of those men in a various amount of ways will do exactly that...IF he can do it.

DC got much work to earn his way back to a belt none of this garden path route Cummins, and a undersized Dan Henderson. lets put Rumble, Gus, Glover, Phil, on his dinner list so how well he digests those fighters.

Probably Phil Davis if he wins.....

Honestly there's nobody left after Gus/Rumble winner.

If Bader gets past Davis or if Rashad beats Glover than those would be the only contenders I see, but Jones already beat them.

So a HW fight with Werdurm will probably happen when he losses to Cain, since he's already calling Bones out

Phil Davis, The loser of Rumble/Gus, Evans, possibly Osp/DC

If Davis finishes Bader then say some fringe guy like Manuwa, I'd be OK with a title fight being made.
Even though he lost to Rumble/Shad, he has wins over Gus, Machida(?), Glover, Lil Nog(when he was only partially shot) & Bader(potentially).
That should get him into title talk at 205.

At this point Davis has a better resume than Jones last 3 opponents and already dominated 2 of them

Phil Davis, The loser of Rumble/Gus, Evans, possibly Osp/DC

DC just showed he's easily a top guy a 205. OSP needs to be nowhere near DC at this point, he's a good prospect and needs to fight guys like Glover, Davis, and Rashad. Guys like Gus and DC should be fighting No 1 contenders or the champ.

There is nobody.
that's why this fight doesn't ring true with me.

Gustafsson should've waited for his rematch, which will probably happen in say, May given that Jones ended the Cormier fight unscathed.

Rumble could've fought someone like OSP to keep busy, and got the next shot.

Now, Jones probably has one legitimate fight left at 205, no matter who wins in January. So he'd better start keeping one eye on the big lads at 265lbs. Coz if/when he beats the winner of that fight, they have NOBODY they can sell a PPV with to fight him.

And for the record, I think he beats the winner and then gets mauled at HW. Those lads have reach, size and KO power, no way he's gonna have his own way with those boys. That'll be a bite too much for Jones, as dominant and brilliant as he is.
While it was @ LHW he just beat one of the premier HW's. HW DC is different than LHW DC, to some extent, but HW Jones will be different also just don't know how much.

Jones handling of DC should put to rest the "Jones will get mauled by HW's" talk. He might not win the belt but he's a threat to anyone just as he is @ LHW. Another 10-20lbs of muscle probably isn't gonna hurt anything.

Honestly, unless he fights Cain, If I were a betting man I'd put my money on Jones next 3 fights going to be Gus(rematch), Rumble and DC(rematch). It's lame, but I can almost guarantee it's happening.

Realistically, those are three fights they can sell. Otherwise, become a part-time HW (like Anderson did with LHW) - take fights with quality HW's that are not likely to get title shots - Hunt, Bigfoot, Nelson, Rothwell, Mitrione, etc.

No one. He has cleared out the division.

There will always be a new fighter the fans will get behind though and I can imagine it would be Phil Davis if Jones plans to stick around LHW.

I fully expect if he beats the winner of Gus/Rumble that the UFC will offer him a super fight at Heavyweight.

Jones said at the presser he's fine at staying at 205 and hinted if he was to fight at heavyweight it would be a one time deal and he expects to be heavily paid for it.

Only HW would then be interesting for Jones.

There is a wealth of potential serious LHW & HW contenders in the ex-Soviet countries.

Make a Russia vs. Ex. Soviet Satellite nations TUF type competition to increase the depth of the two largest UFC weight classes.

Could be interesting especially given the current political turmoil between many of these groups!

A contender will always emerge.

we got the chance to see a GOAT working, he will clean the division. If Rumble beats Gus, probably we will see Jones fighting both, but if Gus beats Rumble, Jones will face and beat Gus and that should be it. He has clean the division, and the LHWs who is the toughest in the UFC, not like Silva at MW, who faced not so tough opposition in title defending fights.

Isn't it obvious?

I agree with that and I agree with what Jones said about contenders needing to fight each other. No more easy paths for any of the contenders. Literally have a tournament with the guys you mentioned. That way the number 1 contender will truly emerge from the pack.

Looks like Jones has pretty much cleared out the division. The only person left is OSP and maybe Bader again. Davis got back into the W column but I don't see him standing a chance.

At HW, Cain has Werdum and maybe Browne. Perhaps Hunt is still in the picture seeing as he stepped in as a replacement in his loss. It is not looking like there is a variety up here either.

Is it possible then that we could see a Jones/Cain fight soon? Out of all the possible super fights across the divisons, this seems like the most realistic..

Here are the options as I see it:

Velasquez at heavy (title shot)

Miocic at heavy (testing the waters)

Weidman at 205 (superfight for lhw title)

Cormier at 205 (grudge rematch)

Phil Davis at 205 (last contender standing)

Cain is the one I want, Cormier is the one we'll most likely get.
