They somehow manage to categorize their fighters as independent contractors with exclusive contracts (and all that comes with it). I don't really know how that's possible.

I think they would have to retire for a certain amount of time before they could jon another org. Jorge could fight out his contract and not renew, I dont think champions get the option of not renewing their contract.

If a champion was serious about leaving thought they could vacate the title and fulfill their original contracts end.

Maybe they should be smart like those other athletes and form a union. As long as they want to cry about individual pay but not band together I can't have much sympathy for their stupidity especially the likes of Jones and Masvidal, guys who are respected by mma peers if they were to lead for a ufc union.

Pretty sure the contract just 'freezes' if they retire, Schaub said if he wanted to come back his UFC would still stand.
