If Gordon Ryan's not going to MMA anymore.....

How is that not running away from competition?

Super fights for $10K is fine and dandy, but its one opponent event.

ADCC Worlds would be at least 3 tough opponents.

Winning 5 ADCC titles would be an accomplishment, suitable for the title of a King.

Ryan is just way ahead of himself.

I was replying to people that were talking about ibjjf events which are highly rated and therefore one competitor should compete in it.
Gordon Ryan is not interested to give money to the ibjjf in order to get a medal and no cash prize.
He already announced that he is only competing for cash prize for this year.
According to such policy, I guess he still had to pay to enter the adcc qualifier at the first place.
He has moved on to become a professional athlete.
Ibjjf is still charging professional athlete to compete.
The sport is so amateurish...

Replace the name Ryan with Galvao or Buchecha, in your own post and read it again.

Those are top level professionals.

They pay their fees, they compete, they win, they get global recognition and following.

None of them is self proclaiming as a King or whatever royalty.

Not willing to pay fee, to enter a competition is the same as not willing to pay a fee for donwload an instructional.

I wonder how would he feel in that bargain...

Just because we have accepted the ibjjf model for so many years does not mean that everyone must follow it.

Gordon Ryan found companies that are willing to pay him to have matches.

If the rest of bjj competitors still want to give their money to enter ibjjf events .....no big deal.
It is their rights..
Ibjjf is not even a real federation. It is just a business that is own by Carlos Gracie jnr and they just happened to run competitions and you must be part of their federation in order to compete..

There is other federation out there.

Did you see me saying anything about IBJJF?

No.

I was talking about ADCC.

Or he doesnt want to pay them too?

Of course there are other federations out there, but the toughest ones are... the ones he "doesnt want to pay a fee" to compete

At 24 years old, he can easily be my son.
And if my son was behaving like that, Id send him to the woods for a week.

2003, Galvao was a skinny brown belt, who came with Terrere for his match against Marcelo Garcia at the All Japan nationals.

None of them got got paid for their professional matches.
They got a seminar each and a ticket.
Thats when they were already legends.

Nowadays, we have kids like Ryan and McGregor, demanding a lot of money, before even winning a world title.

Get your titles first, make records, then it will come natural.

I like ibjjf but I agree on some ways. I like doing them because they run on time and stuff.

Lots of other grapplers though Gabe stopped doing ibjjf because they felt they were professionals and should be paid. Jacare and Rodolfo being the most notable ones.

I'm not buying this "Gordon Ryan BJJ GOAT" hype. He's a bad mofo, yes he is. But I just haven't seen anything that makes me think he would come out on top against Roger in his prime, or even Jacare for that matter. Obviously it's all just talk since we'll never truly know, but I just don't see it.
