Almost every iconic character a generation ago was white, because the core audience was white. The audience is changing, and now these fictional characters will change as well. I don't know what's so hard to understand about that. You're arbitrary "if they started white they have to always remain white through every version, even if the character spans a century or more" opinion is just that... your opinion.Doesn't change the fact that spiderman was made white by it's creator, therefore spiderman is white.
Hollywood can portray him however they want it still won't change the fact that the fictional character, spiderman is white.
What's so hard to understand?
Look at Nick Fury. That character goes back to WW2. Well, in the Ultimates version he is black. Most casual fans only know of Nick Fury as a bald black guy. In the OG marvel comics there is still a white Fury. Both characters exist, have fans, etc. The world didn't implode.
Funny how nobody is bothered by the fact that Hollywood only made white characters 95% of the time, and whitewashed ethnic characters, but any white character changing race is blasphemous. This is what the industry does. It's not new.
