The Aurora guy was an academic master. He had a 3.95 GPA.
Who had just been denied from several programs. He then started shooting people, because that "failure" was too much to take.

Honestly, stopping the "everybody gets a trophy" culture we have developed here in the US would go a long way to curbing it, imo.
Yeah totally, man, can't believe that I hadn't considered that emotional support and equality could lead to mass killings.
It's like hardly important that life is full of indicators of one's own success or failure.
It's the handful of instances where kids compete in sport that is the fundamental basis for the growth of a sense of entitlement which obviously leads to murdering your colleagues with a machine gun!!!
Some smart motherfuckers up in this hood.
Clearly the problem lies with Democrats having guns. I say that as humor. But it does have some truth to it - especially considering felons are more likely to vote Democrat.
I am reposting that because it's funny.
Way to have the entire point of what was said go right over your head.....
I have no real ideas, only scathing criticisms. That's why I hang out in the warroom. In all seriousness, I think it's too late. We've already let it become too much of a part of our culture to see any sort of change in the next few decades.
Agreed.
The semi automatic carrying, mentally disturbed white teen in a trench coat, going on a shooting rampage, is as American as apple pie and baseball.
Underlined, in America that is true, in Australia that is not true.
If I wanted to get a gun right now I have no fucking idea how I could do so. Honestly it would involve going to the dodgiest parts of town and asking the dodgiest people if they know where I can get one and then hoping they don't rob me.
Also more people carrying guns around will I feel lead to more people getting shot over minor things and sudden bouts of rage over minor shit that they would have forgotten not long after.
Really the problem is the people, I do think the fear culture in the US has something to do with it. American news is scary dude, everything and everyone is trying to kill you I am sure it weighs on people.
Restricting civilian access to automatic and semi automatic weapons along with high capacity magazines. I'm anti-banning guns entirely, but there's no good reason that the average American needs automatic rifles, body army, etc.

though I was initially for "stand your ground laws", I've begun to rethink my position as the nature and spirit behind SYG is being abused by cowards imo. There have been numerous incidences of exactly what you said happening. small slights or disagreements ending with some one dead. example, A minor dispute in Florida, over a father shooting baskets with his daughter, ended up with him getting shot after he had words with one of his neighbor's. The dad had multiple deployments to the middle east with the Air Force, and he died in front of his daughter. Having a gun emboldens many guys, which under normal conditions are cowards, turn into "billy badass" when confronted with issues that could easily be squashed by someone swallowing their Pride and walking away.
I've really been wanting to visit the states for the past few years, but I'm honestly paranoid and scared to after reading about mass shootings almost every month.
For Americans, I'm really curious if these mass shootings have in anyway affected your way of living? Is it something you worry about when you're out with friends/families?
I don't think this is some new cultural phenomenon. These are simply our 21st century serial killers. Crazy will be crazy and saying that culture somehow created these kids dodges the fact that mass killings have been around forever. Its just now they are done all at once instead of over long periods of time.Have to agree with this.
I was just reading an article by a college adjunct who said that she regularly inflates student grades because they believe they deserve an "A" regardless of how much work they did.
We certainly seem to have created a culture where people are less equipped to deal with the failures that life will throw at you. Look at this latest moron - drove a BMW, thought he was a handsome guy and then felt the need to shoot people for not acknowledging his greatness.
This kid in Santa Barbara killed 3 people because some girls wouldn't go on a date with him. The kid in Aurora a few years ago killed a bunch of people because he couldn't get into a Master's program. Kids aren't allowed to fail, to be disappointed, learn from it and move on. They're coddled all the way threw High School, into early adulthood, and then tossed out into the world where nobody really gives a crap about you, and have no idea how to deal with failure.
Are you talking about people carrying legally as with a permit? Because the number is very small and this was the cry of the anti 2nd people when shall issue started

Michael Dunn and George Zimmerman are the obvious cases. Personally I'm against stand your ground, mostly because if you can't retreat normal self defense laws don't obligate you to try, and castle doctrine certainly allows you to take whatever measures you deem necessary if your home is being invaded. As far as I can tell all stand your ground does is give people an excuse to start shooting just because they feel vaguely threatened, when what you should do is get out of the situation. Duty to retreat is only invoked if there's a reasonable means of retreat, it doesn't mean you have to let muggers rob you, etc. and it never has. Stand your ground solves a problem that never existed and unfortunately creates a legal framework where people can literally get away with murder just by claiming that they felt in danger somehow.
