There's a grey area there too. Unless someone is saying something crazy like "I hope someone xyz you tonight" or "you deserve painful balls deep Epstein treatment" (I'm using lesser words of what I really meant there) then I don't think it should be deleted at all. The report button should be reserved for true vile actions like someone posting CP or skat, openly direct threats against a user, doxxing, things of that nature. Online discussion forums shouldn't be about getting upset because someone has a different opinion, which happens way too often these days.
For example, if someone worships Trump as their Lord and Savior, it obviously isn't my jam, but they're more than entitled to do that and preach the cult. And I should be allowed to check them and call them a fool for being blind. Etc etc. It's called the War Room not "The Cuddle Room".
Anyway back to reading the thread, but tossing my 2 cents there.
Appreciate the feedback, and absolutely being pro-Trump or anti-Trump is fine in and of itself. Ultimately what the report button is there for, are posts that someone thinks may be outside the subforum’s rules. Like, yes this is the WR, and that’s why it has a mild flaming rule and some other quirks that are different than other forums. But this subforum does have rules, and we do our best to handle those things that are outside those rules.
We all volunteer our time and have actual 9-5 jobs on top of this, and it’s just sort of disheartening to log on as I did this morning, see 0 reports, and then the first thread I come into people are complaining that we didn’t mod some content that none of us saw and nobody reported, that’s all.
By not hitting the report button and instead telling the mods they're doing a shit job?
Boy you really thought that one through.
We can only mod what we see. I’d imagine most mods have a similar routine to me: I log on, and look to see if there are open reports. That’s our first cue; if I see a dozen reports waiting, then I’m like “oh shit, something must be blowing up in some thread.” But if I see 0, then I assume things are ok, and I take on the role of Poster. I surf the Dog just like you, go into threads that interest me, reply to whomever, etc. I only put on the Mod hat if:
a) I happen to come across a post that runs afoul of the rules
b) somebody reports something
We don’t methodically go through every post in every thread like the Gestapo to shake posters down, and I don’t think anyone wants to be on a forum with mods that would, you know?
Anyway, I’ll end my rambling public service announcement. All I’m saying is, we work hard and do the best we can, and if you see somebody posting something fucked up, the best way to address it is report it. Every report is seen and handled.
