Social ICE/deportation protests and riots megathread

Got to love celebrities that know nothing deciding to weigh in on a situations and get everything wrong.

Kelly Osborne said the left want a permanent underclass.

Yet the state of California has a larger economy than your entire nation. And that was before every man except you started dying in Ukraine.

I'd say the protests did exactly what they were planned for: Made trump look like an authoritarian douche while he sat in the rain at a military parade that drew, no shit, about 1/10,000 of the crowd his adversaries did.

Such low energy. No wonder you got up early just to try and spin this one.

you don’t know many poor people, do you?

What are you basing that on? My 'incorrect' assertion that they tend to waste what little money they do have on trivial bullshit?

That's the biggest way to stay in poverty if you're otherwise doing everything right. Living 'a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget.'

I am happy to go back and forth on that as I've done it before and I have all my sources and studies lined up and ready to go.

Your call.

I’ll play for a little while, but if I get bored or hungry or lose interest I’ll probably do something else.

Poor people I know (that is to say, most people I know) spend majority of their money on food, gas, insurance, rent, etc. 1-2k a month would buy them breathing room on bills and save their asses in a pinch.

Everyone spends the majority of their money on necessities. Smart people save the rest of it. The others waste it on bullshit.

You want to reward those assholes and disincentivize making the right moves.

My dad was dirt poor growing up and died a millionaire. There absolutely is a path but it takes discipline and hard work. Not hand outs.

There's a reason immigrants from Asia are KILLING IT in North America. Because for the first time ever they're in a situation where they have the freedom to do the right thing, sacrifice and work hard, live frugally and send their kids to medical school.

Also lol @ 'yeah I'll argue, but when I lose it's only because you're boring and I'm hungry.'

Everyone spends the majority of their money on necessities
That can’t be true from a mathematical standpoint point, or else you’re using the term “necessities”‘wrong.
My dad was dirt poor growing up and died a millionaire
Cool. Did he use that money to make your life better? Safer? Easier?
sacrifice and work hard, live frugally and send their kids to medical school
What if we could provide that same quality of life and opportunity without having to live so frugally? Imagine being able to send the kids to medical school while still being home to spend time with them more, enjoy time off together, and take a bigger role in raising them?

And yeah dude, you’re a bore, needlessly aggressive and insulting, and lack flexibility in your thinking. I don’t owe you a conversation so I’ll come and go as I feel like it. Sorry bud

Who's we? You're talking about stealing other people's money. 'We' wouldn't be doing it. Your plan revolves around stealing from people better off than you.

And this is what it ultimately always comes back to in these conversations. You want the reward without the sacrifice. That never ends up working out and you end up with the USSR and everyone starving to death.

There is no free lunch.

More like the US doesn't want people to work anymore. It's been a slow, but obvious trend. When screens replaced *McDonalds* employees, everyone is on the block.
Except employment and labor participation rates remain extremely high. The issue is the population is aging faster than new workers can enter the labor market.

Food, water, rent, insurance, education- such rewards!

Correct. If 902 American citizens are hoarding a combined 5-6 TRILLION dollars, I’m ok with redistributing some of it.

Make America great again, right!!? How about a marginal tax rate like we had in the 50s and 60s, easily our most prosperous era as a nation. What could be greater than having the best education system in the world? Highest quality of life? Lowest crime rate? Best medical system on the planet? Lowest rates of child hunger in the first world?

The resources are there.

Take that third image and multiply that pile of rice 50 times and that’s closer to what those 900 weirdos are hoarding.

The U.S. ranks lower than nearly every other wealthy country on social mobility indices (OECD). The "American Dream" is more attainable in Denmark, Canada, and Finland.

Our middle class is disappearing, our wealth inequality is growing, wealth concentration is growing, our CEO to worker pay ratio is 2-3x higher than any comparable country in the world.

Fuck this late stage capitalism.
