It s also that meat is less caloric per unit so you absorb less calories by avoiding grains.I understand if its for medical reason or for weight cutting. But I do not understand why would anyone go on a low carb diet for weight loss since at the end of the day, its about burning more calories you take in. Some say low carb is better than low calorie which makes no sense because even in low carb, you still have to reduce calories for weight loss purposes.
Does something happen besides water loss?
Walk into your convenience store or grocery store. You will see carbs everywhere. It’s easy to be in a caloric deficit when you cut out carbs.
A lot of fat people have diets that are literally 80% carbs. Low carb forces them to eat in a sane way and combined with calorie counting they see big results. However if you already know what you're doing there's not really any point to going for low carbs, just make sure the macros make sense for what you're aiming for.
Carbs are also anabolic
The best diet to follow if the one you can follow. For me low carb is the easiest way to keep track of the bullshit. Bread pasta etc is all stuff you don’t even realize how much you’re taking in. When I wanted to lose weight I started at 252, power lifter though, and got down to 220 and then did a second run to get down to 210. I’ve settled at 215 around two years later. I kept it to roughly 2000 calories a day, 160 grams of protein, and 50 carbs a day except for on cardio days (which was 100). Today I still don’t have carbs in every meal. There’s just no reason to do that.
so low carb high protein was the easiest for me to follow and still hit my protein for the day consistently.
I understand but there is a difference between processed carbs and natural carbs like fruits, vegetables, dates, honey. I feel like processed carbs are giving healthy carbs a bad rep.
I find a piece of fruit really helps with feeling fuller. Like you can binge gummy worms but its impossible to eat 4 apples since you end up feeling full because its filled with nutrition and the water content keeps you full. The enzymes make it easy to digest.
Now a days, there are low carb junk food that is high in calories. A fatty meal can be very calorie filled.
True if they are fruits, dates, honey and vegetables that are of natural source. I suppose there are no real fat or protein out there that are catabolic unless maybe tofu or vegetable oil. So its easy to choose anabolic options on low carb.
I hear you with pasta and breads that can be very addicting. That being said, fruit is very filling and help feel fuller longer.
Yeah I’ve been getting way back into fruit lately when losing weight. A mate was telling me about the sugars in fruit etc, well yeah but I’m sure an apple is a better snack than an apple and cinnamon muffin for example
Carb loading and timing helps too. On days I go to the gym, I lift for 1.5 hours. In order to sustain the long workouts with minimal energy loss... I carb load before going. So I sit at my desk and eat all day before leaving for the gym. I may eat 300 grams of carbs by 4 o'clock. Afterwards I just eat straight protein and minimal carbs.Yeah, being in a caloric deficit is what will get you to lose weight. But if on top of that you go low carb, you'll specifically lose more fat, which is what just about everyone wants.
The extremely elusive gaining muscle while losing fat combo can actually be achieved if you are in a caloric deficit while eating very high protein. Like 50-60% of your calories.

But days I don't lift I may only eat 150-175 grams of carbs.
The thing that always remains constant is 1g protein per 1 lb of body weight every day.
Low carb will probably tank your thyroid levels especially if your already hypothyroid which a lot of people are already at borderline levels and they dont know it. If your hypothyroid your going to struggle with losing weight, your tdee is going to drop when you try to restrict the diet. Keto like anyother diet will work really well for some people depending on their circumstances, health history, genetics, etc.High carb diets and low carb diets/keto have a different impact in regards to what your body does with the calories you take in. It effects hormones such as insulin which helps your body regulate how calories are used/stored.
Also your body composition will be different depending on your fat/protein/carb ratios.
Satiation also changes depending on the foods you eat.
Finally, as you mentioned, less water retention.
In short low carb diets could potentially help with weight loss and body composition because of hormonal impact, calorie restriction benefits, macro nutritient %, and less water retention.
Do you know what it is about fats that combat lethargy?I'm 45 so my macros and BMR are different but I'm fairly certain your fat intake MUST be higher than your carb intake, or you'll crash or be lethargic.
Are you still trying to eat 800-1200 calories a day?Low calorie diet doesnt mean less food. If you learn how to count macros (believe or not many people dont) you can easily find out what and how much food you can eat. Im the person that needs to have bigger meals so stuff belly for once and good (smaller portions throughout day is BS) and I am currently eating daily 30% calories below my maintenance. Losing weight week to week consistently. Forget those meal plans; 15g cereal with 20ml fat free milk BS or 120g chicken breast and salad...you pick your own food. Learn to read food labels and make your own menu. So easy.
