I don't think Poatan would ever beat Izzy again...

Its only poor if hes going in recklessly for the kill. Before that Poatan was picking Izzy apart from range with leg kicks, while Izzy could not land the one two combo that was his only effective punch on the first fight. And he tried it many times, hes just not good at leading.

All Poatan has to do to win next time is keep on the leg kick game until Izzy cant stand no more, and THEN go for the kill on the later rounds. Or if he wants to be super conservative, just outpoint him to a decision.

Izzys lit him up every fight. Alex needs a ref or a bell or something to save him and keep him in the fight to enable him to unleash that power.

If he fights sloppy again... he gets iced again.

You do realize that this was Alex' best performance, outlanding Izzy 2 to 1, prior to the mistake.

All Alex has to do is the exact same performance, but not going for the kill so quickly. Izzy is very athletic, and he doesn't start slowing down till about the end of the third to the fourth round. Watch all his fights.

At the end of the Gastelum fight, Izzy could barely stand in the 5th round. No more movement. He was pretty much the same way with Pereira in the fifth, which is when he got killed.

Alex just needs to break Izzy down for 4 rounds first.
Interesting. This was Izzy's latest finish, I do believe you are onto something.

Give him double yellows for littering on the forum with this trash.

Alex was up 3-0 against Izzy and was winning the fight until he got careless (props to Izzy for setting up the counter and capitalizing), and now he can't win another fight against Israel?

Recency bias is strong on Sherdog
it's not a recency bias, just very tiny brains.

LOL I guess Izzy is the only fighter with very high fight IQ that takes 4 fights to figure out a fighter.

Izzy has a very high IQ.

I think he figured out Poatan.

He was methodical before, like he is in most of his fights. He snipes and moves a lot. This obviously works against 99% of his opponents, but it's hard to do for 5 rounds without making a small mistake. A small mistake against Poatan and you're likely going to take a shot you can't recover from.

However, Izzy realized the best way to beat a bully is to be the bully. Poatan leaves his head wide open and dares people to attack, but they rarely have because they feared his power.

Izzy's precision is second to none and he figured out all he has to do is unload. Poatan's head is there for the taking and at 36, it'll be hard to change his ways.

I think bully Izzy would take his head off every time now because he solved the Poatan puzzle. Izzy will likely revert back to sniping going forward because other fighters are better defensively than Poatan, but if he faces Poatan again, bully Izzy will return and he'll put Poatan out again.
Ya I agree with having him figured out. He set him up perfectly. Pereira is still very dangerous of course but this was his big do or die moment and Adesanya proved to be better.

Izzy nearly kod him in the first ufc fight but alex was saved by the bell and went on to win. I think especially in mma anything can happen when these 2 fight.

He doesnt need to unleash anything, he can win just by leg kicking him all day. Just like Izzy did to Romero, Cannonier, etc. who he had the leg kicking advantage against.

Your boy was the underdog despite being 3-0 up.

Nothing to figure out, just needed to take the ref and the bell out of the equation.

Alex can watch his wins back, watch himself being put on loopy street twice and have to be saved by ref and the bell.

Izzy can watch his one back... and see none of that.

They fought 4x but only one win is clean, compelling and undeniable.

Lmao, I'm 100% right. You've hate this fact.

I made multiple threads BEFORE the fight pointing this out and saying Izzy would win. You and most of this forum demonstrated you MMA IQ with your peak understanding of the history being "3-0".

If you are mad and frustrated because you can't understand the detail and technicalities of how fights play out, thats your problem not mine.

I'm not sure who's crying more - you or Alex's kids.

Funny when an instant rematch is actually warranted, the UFC won't do it.

Yes, Adesanya also decimated Robert Whitaker and Paul Costa early, in fact all 3 were finished in the second round, when Izzy was still fresh and sharp.

He slows down noticeably by the 4th.

Style makes fights. Alex is humongous for the weight class, which was the innate advantage Israel had in the division — except Israel was “bigger” in that he was taller than everyone in his weight class. Alex is both Israel’s height and noticeably huger than anyone in the weight class.

Furthermore, Alex had a proverbial “leg up” on Israel in that Alex has finished Israel twice prior to this fight.

Regardless of what Israel says, that does cloud your assessment of a fighter when you’re in the ring with the guy that has finished you before in combat sports.

Despite all the aforementioned, I don’t see Alex getting his “get back” on Israel in the future. Alex is still very new to MMA and there are facets of the sport he just hasn’t acclimated to.

Israel’s a tenured MMA guy who’s defended his belt over 5 times.

Israel got the confidence boost he needed when he knocked Alex out cold in their last showing; meaning, one of the key advantages Alex had over Israel is gone.

Just not gonna happen again, man.

Perhaps in fucking Bizzaro world, yes.
How was this Alex's big do or die moment when he had already beaten Izzy 3 times? It's the literal exact opposite, it was Izzy's do or die moment, and he did it. Izzy proved to be better that night, not the better fighter overall.

Now I have to rewatch the Jan fight and Alex fights again to see if there is a certain moment or tell when he's tired. Hope Alex's coaches also realize that they have to finish him late and to stay more measured up until championship rounds

Do or die. If Pereira won he'd still be champ. He lost and risks fading into obscurity unless he beats some top 5 MWs. Hanging some old (kickboxing) losses over Izzy's head like they occurred yesterday, won't change the facts.

I feel the same, to be honest. I think the whole "Alex is/was 3-0" mislead people to think that Alex was somehow dominant in the matchup, but he wasn't, every fight was close and most of them Adesanya was actually winning. Now that Alex is older and have to cut a lot of weight plus Adesanya figured that he can put serious damage on him, I just don't see Alex winning a trilogy if it happens.

EDIT: He has a chance to beat Adesanya, but he would need to fight very carefully and patient. I don't see it happening.

I think the opposite.

If they have the Trilogy fight Alex will be in Amsterdam preparing and this time they will need more than oxygen to wake up Adesanya. Alex will have learned from the mistake he made. He made one mistake Adesanya has lost 3 times to Alex.

Adesanya has a lot of miles on him he probably has 3-4 fights left in him unless he keeps rematching the guys he already beat twice.

I also think Adesanya will know when it's time to hang them up.
