Izzy has a very high IQ.

I think he figured out Poatan.

He was methodical before, like he is in most of his fights. He snipes and moves a lot. This obviously works against 99% of his opponents, but it's hard to do for 5 rounds without making a small mistake. A small mistake against Poatan and you're likely going to take a shot you can't recover from.

However, Izzy realized the best way to beat a bully is to be the bully. Poatan leaves his head wide open and dares people to attack, but they rarely have because they feared his power.

Izzy's precision is second to none and he figured out all he has to do is unload. Poatan's head is there for the taking and at 36, it'll be hard to change his ways.

I think bully Izzy would take his head off every time now because he solved the Poatan puzzle. Izzy will likely revert back to sniping going forward because other fighters are better defensively than Poatan, but if he faces Poatan again, bully Izzy will return and he'll put Poatan out again.

Alex was up 3-0 against Izzy and was winning the fight until he got careless (props to Izzy for setting up the counter and capitalizing), and now he can't win another fight against Israel?

Recency bias is strong on Sherdog

He wasn't winning the fight. He lost the first on all cards and was losing the second more clearly until the leg kicks started having an effect.

I think Alex had a very good chance to go on and win the fight had he not been KOd. Seemed like it would have been a lot easier for him to finish the fight compared to the first fight considering how fucked that leg was looking.

I think Pereira got a bit overconfident and if he'd been patient the fight would have continued to go well for him. I thought Izzy won the 1st round (very narrowly), but Poatan's shots were already paying dividends.

I was 50/50 before their last fight, and I think it'd be 50/50 again. Israel is mentally strong, he showed that, but it would only take small adjustements for Alex to prevail again.

Israel seems set to never fight him again, though, so we may never find out.

I think his chin is compromised from the brutal KO and the brutal weight cuts.

I don't see Poatan beating him at 185 ever again.

Poatan's mindset is to always go for the kill, no?

Or was he a patient fighter before?

I never thought of him as being a patient sniper.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think rushing Izzy is good for any opponent.

He actually was piecing Izzy up in this one, prior to rushing in with his hands down, so I definitely don't think Izzy has any big advantage, or vice versa.

Both guys are very evenly matched overall.
If Alex gets a rematch it will be interesting for sure.

If he stays patient and brutalizes the legs and makes Izzy have to play catch up instead of rushing for a finish.

Are you seriously suggesting that Poatan will go guns blazing at Izzy and leave himself open for counter punches because Izzy has figured him out now? Alex was having more success until the KO.

I'm suggesting Poatan's defense is poor, but he got away with it because people didn't think they could capitalize without being finished.

Izzy now knows he possesses the power to brutally end Poatan and it'll be available every fight.

@I WILL CUT YOU is a shitty poster too but atleast he doesn't make threads. TS might be a troll but it’s hard to say.

I'll let you boys have at it im outtttttt

Aww, Conorstan w/ hurt feelings.

Sorry I own you so much. 3-4 at 155+. No good wins in the division.

Izzy did his homework and tried to emulate Vakhitov's success in the pocket and did a great job
but that KO was not really a trap or counter, both guys went for it and Izzy came out on top. Izzy showed a lot of dog in this fight and showed us that he was willing to kill or be killed when hurt.

Pereira has a clear advantage at range and Izzy seems to have the advantage in the pocket with more fluid combos. I think Izzy got a tad bit lucky with Pereira getting over zealous BUT in a rematch I think they're dead even.

Izzy knows he can't play range and Pereira knows he can't let Izzy get close. I hate rematches usually but a 3rd fight will show us who's truly the better striker as both guys have showed their strengths and weaknesses.

Poatan should have more of that validation given he has done it more often against Izzy. If anything, it would be even odds, not more so for Izzy.

One could also point out Izzy was easily winning the first fight before a late mistake. And only time stopped a KO in the first fight.

I haven't watched the kickboxing fights, but I've seen people say Izzy was robbed in one of them? Not sure. I should watch.
