Here is the BBC report.
It's a must watch!
I (like many others) didn't know much about scientology before I started reading this...
I do however believe that religions are good at the very source i.e. why they were created; which is to help one another and see the good in people, and all the good normal stuff, no cheating, lying, stealing, killing, etc. Scientology from what I have seen doesn't teach any of this. Granted I haven't seen all there is too see.
Dude, that's fucking egregious. I had no clue it was really that bad. Why doesn't someone expose that shit?
Seems redundant to point out what you have already stated. You state you don't know much about Scientology then go on to say Scientology doesn't teach "all the good normal stuff, no cheating, lying, stealing, killing, etc."
Maybe there is more to learn than what you have read on this thread.
There is a book called the Way to Happiness that indeed does teach the things you mention. It is also part and parcel of Mr. Hubbard's first book 'Dianetics' that also covers the aspects you mentioned above. Frankly it is woven through so many writings and lectures of Mr. Hubbard's that even a brief study would reveal this.
There is a website based just on the Way to Happiness:
The Way To Happiness: Moral Character Teaching, Good Advice, Ethical Values, Happier Life Virtues
Hope this clears up that point for you.
as far as the book is concerned, I more than likely won't read it. thank you for the recommendation thought. I am happy with my life right now. I found a long time ago that the key to life is.....being happy. It isn't whether you have millions or if you are helping every single person that you can. It is just about being happy and doing stuff that makes you happy.
I didn't put my words very clearly. I was tired to say the least, I had been reading for about 7 hrs straight. What I meant by them not teaching "good stuff" was based on the interactions that scientologist's have with people. Watch the video's and see how they get so upset and start to attack people (with their words). Why can't they have a normal conversation where they don't get upset or up in someone's face and try to put pressure on them. The scientologists kept avoiding certain questions and then would start talking about the person's faults and how they are not a good person and stupid shit like that. Just converse, there is no need to get angry.
through this thread I can see that you are not like most of the scientologist that have been in the video's. you can take criticism and not get too upset where you start changing the conversation to how someone has many faults and blah blah blah.
IRL - the few individuals that have been hostile to me because of my religion have all eventually been found to have committed crimes that could get them put in jail. Not through any doing of mine but solely from their own acts. It happened enough times that even non-scientologist friends would comment upon it saying that it was almost a surefire way to determine if someone had been committing hidden criminal acts. (Most of my friends aren't Scientologists by the way.) But then again this is covered in basic texts on the subject many of which are available via the net if anyone cared enough to take a look.
I understand the "what are your crimes?" deal as a practical form of offense/defense (getting critics on the back foot, deflecting criticism etc)...
What I don't understand is what scientologists believe about it.
Why are criminals supposedly out to attack scientology?
...or is it more a case of, "only bad people could consider attacking something as wonderful as scientology"?
