I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

PLEASE help fight motherfucking ACTA. they just had a meeting in DC in September. its close.

Holy crap this is a long (but awesome read). I (like many others) didn't know much about scientology before I started reading this. It is a real eye opener and a giant shock. I was raised catholic but once I reached about age 15 I realized I didn't believe it and I no longer wanted to be a part of Catholicism or any other religion for that matter.

I do however believe that religions are good at the very source i.e. why they were created; which is to help one another and see the good in people, and all the good normal stuff, no cheating, lying, stealing, killing, etc. Scientology from what I have seen doesn't teach any of this. Granted I haven't seen all there is too see.

I don't know if it was only me but in the videos where the scientologist's (sp) eyes are clearly visible, they have a weird/erie look to them.

I read the whole TS and I don't see what's so scary about S. It sounds the same as any other religion.

If anything they are the ones being persecuted, just like all minorities are throughout history. TS said himself it wasn't illegal, so what is the fuss about. These people are excercising their free will and their freedom of belief.

LEAVE THEM THE FUCK ALONE.

Snowwhite sounds like self defense. I'm more scared of the .gov than I am of S.

The irony of this witchhunt is that the "technogeeks" are acting the same way as their stone throwing ancestors and they don't even realize it. Fucking tools.

Seems redundant to point out what you have already stated. You state you don't know much about Scientology then go on to say Scientology doesn't teach "all the good normal stuff, no cheating, lying, stealing, killing, etc."

Maybe there is more to learn than what you have read on this thread.

There is a book called the Way to Happiness that indeed does teach the things you mention. It is also part and parcel of Mr. Hubbard's first book 'Dianetics' that also covers the aspects you mentioned above. Frankly it is woven through so many writings and lectures of Mr. Hubbard's that even a brief study would reveal this.

There is a website based just on the Way to Happiness:

The Way To Happiness: Moral Character Teaching, Good Advice, Ethical Values, Happier Life Virtues

Hope this clears up that point for you.

No offense to you parents, but how can anyone get dragged into such a ridiculous system of beliefs?

From bad science fiction novels to religion?

Very bizarre...

Dude, that's fucking egregious. I had no clue it was really that bad. Why doesn't someone expose that shit?

Look at what has happened to the people who have tried to expose them. Scientologists are ruthless.

I don't know if anyone has heard of Operation: Snow White, but it was one of the largest infiltrations of the American government in our history and it was committed by Scientologists.

Operation Snow White - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

congratulations on getting out, i hope u find happiness, you deserve it

I didn't put my words very clearly. I was tired to say the least, I had been reading for about 7 hrs straight. What I meant by them not teaching "good stuff" was based on the interactions that scientologist's have with people. Watch the video's and see how they get so upset and start to attack people (with their words). Why can't they have a normal conversation where they don't get upset or up in someone's face and try to put pressure on them. The scientologists kept avoiding certain questions and then would start talking about the person's faults and how they are not a good person and stupid shit like that. Just converse, there is no need to get angry.

through this thread I can see that you are not like most of the scientologist that have been in the video's. you can take criticism and not get too upset where you start changing the conversation to how someone has many faults and blah blah blah.

as far as the book is concerned, I more than likely won't read it. thank you for the recommendation thought. I am happy with my life right now. I found a long time ago that the key to life is.....being happy. It isn't whether you have millions or if you are helping every single person that you can. It is just about being happy and doing stuff that makes you happy.

I couldn't agree more.

I've long since learned to not trust pictures and videos. Seen too many instances where editing, context, etc. can make something look different than it is.

You would find that most Scientologists act the way I do. I don't answer every question put to me on the net because frankly some of it isn't anyone else's business. Plus if a person in real life were to insult or badger me about my religion I might feel less than friendly to the person in question. It rarely happens now. (Used to happen more when I was much smaller.)

People in general are friendly to me and I try to be friendly to them. Of course the amount of hostility that has been directed at me on the net due to my religion is almost biblical in proportion. Amusing as far as I can tell the individuals in question for the most part, like you, haven't a clue as to what my religion is about and usually don't take the time to check any thing out besides negative stuff easily found on the net.

I guess that's just the nature of the beast.

IRL - the few individuals that have been hostile to me because of my religion have all eventually been found to have committed crimes that could get them put in jail. Not through any doing of mine but solely from their own acts. It happened enough times that even non-scientologist friends would comment upon it saying that it was almost a surefire way to determine if someone had been committing hidden criminal acts. (Most of my friends aren't Scientologists by the way.) But then again this is covered in basic texts on the subject many of which are available via the net if anyone cared enough to take a look.

It surely is a curious phenomena to say the least and has great applicability in day to day living.

I don't know where they're going with this. But so far; zomg wtf lol!

WHAT ARE YOUR CRIMES!!!!!!

I understand the "what are your crimes?" deal as a practical form of offense/defense (getting critics on the back foot, deflecting criticism etc)...
What I don't understand is what scientologists believe about it.
Why are criminals supposedly out to attack scientology?
...or is it more a case of, "only bad people could consider attacking something as wonderful as scientology"?

Hubbard's argument was that people with secrets that they want to remain unexposed will fight against Scientology, as one of the chief ways to get "clear" is to confess all your thoughts and deeds while being audited. Scientists want to clear the planet, guilty people want to hide their crimes, and so they oppose Scientology at every step.

Just like anyone who says "God doesn't exists" just HAD to be a closet disciple of Satan during the dark ages.
