I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but thought I would post this. I bought the magazine shortly after I finished reading Dianetics. I was even considering looking into the church of scientology before I read this. Enjoy if not previously posted.

Scientology: 'Religion' a Thriving Cult of Greed, Power - TIME

Good job dodging that bullet, man. Sounded like a close one! lol

Tomorrow will bring a nice interview in Oz with Mike Rinder, the former head of OSA.

Alas, Mike Rinder!

Let's just hope he keeps it up. He has MUCH more he could reveal to the world.

The way he refers obliquely to an ongoing investigation(and therefore he can't sue) leads me to believe(or at least I WANT to believe) that he's been talking to the FBI. If any organization in this world is ripe for the RICO treatment, it's Scientology.

100%.

RICO was practically made to take the CoS down. Well, technically it was an anti-mafia law but there isnt much difference i guess.

There's a church of scientology 8 minutes away driving distance from my bjj place. I feel like bombing it now.

Will.

Why is Australia leading the way when it comes to speaking out about Scientology?

We have almost weekly current affairs programs exposing the cult. As an Australian I think it's amazing and I'm proud, I was just wondering why Australian media seems so proactive compared to other countries?

Last I heard James Packer, one of the richest men in Australia has broken away from Scientology which is awesome news.

ps. I've been watched a lot of youtube videos of Aaron Saxton and Xenophon. Love their work.

What's the deal with tom cruise. Why's he a scientologist and why is he so damn crazy?

That's a good question, man. I don't really know. My guess would be the big brass balls, huge hearts and a low tolerance for scams. Maybe?

They could be just fed up..Kiyosaki of real-estate idiocy fame got his start their, or on the other island. can't recall.

In regards to the US, lobbying / lawyers tends to run shit, and scientology has that aspect down pretty pat.

HSLD exclusive: Cllr. John Dixon responds to the "stupid Scientology" saga (Humanist & Secularist Liberal Democrats)

I think I can safely say that I've come to the end of what has been the weirdest week of my life. During it, I've gone from confused, through embarrassed, to amazed. And now back to anonymous again.

For those of you who don't follow Twitter, or read a newspaper, or watch Newsnight, or listen to radio, perhaps I'd better introduce myself, once you've sat back from your loom, and slipped your clogs off. I'm John Dixon - aka JohnLDixon - aka CllrJohnDixon - and I'm facing a disciplinary hearing for a Twitter post dating back to May last year.

At the time I'd just bought my wedding rings from a shop in London, and my fianc

Scientologists Charged With Extremism
26 July 2010
The Moscow Times
Prosecutors have opened a criminal case against a Scientology center in the town of Shchyolkovo, 13 kilometers northeast of Moscow, on charges of inciting hatred, punishable with up to five years in prison.

Investigators have decided that documents and literature confiscated at the center promoted extremism, a law enforcement official told Interfax, without elaborating.

The decision was based on expertise conducted by leading Russian linguistic institutions, including the Linguistics Institute at the Academy of Sciences, Interfax reported.

In April, works by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard were added to a federal list of extremist materials on the decision of a Siberian court, which de facto rendered all Scientology centers open to prosecution.

The court's decision slammed Hubbard's books as inciting social and religious hatred, justifying violence, especially toward opponents of Scientology, and promoting anti-state views.

Former science fiction author Hubbard created Scientology in the 1950s. The secretive church has faced regular criticism and litigation from former members, who accuse it of being a cult charging massive fees for purported religious services.

Germany has ruled that it is a commercial organization, and several other European governments have refused to recognize it as a religion.

Scientology's branches in Surgut and Nizhnekamsk successfully sued the Russian government in October at the European Court of Human Rights for refusing to list them as religious organizations on the grounds that they had not existed in the country for 15 years.

In June, Samara region prosecutors reprimanded the head of a local telecommunications company, RosKabelSvyaz, for breaking extremism and labor laws by forcing subordinates to study Scientology under threat of dismissal. They cited the April decision of the Surgut court as the reason for the extremism accusations.

Today I am 30 years old.

I have been visualizing this moment for some time now.

I wanted to find a way to turn 30 with a passion. So in preparation... I've quit smoking. I'm in the gym every day and am really enjoying myself there. I finally got off the graveyard shift at work. My apartment isn't a disaster, and I've thrown away much of the crap I used to horde. I'm eating well.

Things aren't great. And that's okay. They don't have to be. What I do know is that I am actually progressing as a person.

That's it.

Let's cut some cake!

Alright gents.

There is a situation happening right now that could use some serious attention.

One of the most prominent protesters of scientology has been targeted.

Brian Mandigo (AKA Anonsparrow) is a former scientologist/staff member in the DC area. He has documented 184 of his protests by video. You can check those out on his youtube page.

YouTube - anonsparrow1's Channel

Anyway, he has now been charged with stalking. If you watch his videos, you will see this has clearly been set up. Scientlolgists passing by (like Kim Bellotte), will say "stop following me Brian!" when he is obviously just standing still. The charge is laughable. But that's not what's important. What is important is the implication the charge has, and the publicity that can come of this. In other words, the cult is once again shooting itself in the foot and it is WELL documented by Brian. We, the people, only need to have our voices heard. That this manipulation of the justice system will not be tolerated and that free speech shall prevail.

Please feel free to contact the ACLU and voice your concerns. I and other protesters have a feeling they'd take an interest in the case.

Main number: 212 549 2500

DC Office: 202 457 0800

I will post more information soon. This is big deal for me personally. Thanks for reading.

Congrats on your B-day Will, and I hope Anonsparrow will be ok!
