I am an ex-Scientologist. (LONG read)

Will,

From what I have gathered, it seems that Scientology has a solid team of lawyers who can defend their treachery. Is this the reason that no "real" action has been taken to bring down the entire organization? It just blows my mind that these people can legally do what they do.

What would be needed to actually bring down the organization? It seems to me that there are plenty of people who would be willing to give testimony in court. Does the opposition just need a good team of lawyers?

I think it's just a matter of time. A full scale investigation needs to be launched at a federal level here in the states. And when enough have spoken out, I believe one will happen.

It will also become difficult for the US government not to notice the amount of action being taken by other major nations. Perhaps by cooperating with international authorities, they will find a much easier target in the cult of today. In prior decades, the Co$ was much more effective at silencing their critics (such as the IRS). They've thrown money at any problem they couldn't bully their way out of. But the difference is that now the world can see how they do this. Just like you all who are reading this thread.

And yes...

Some balls o' steal lawyers would be nice too.

Here's something interesting. Sharron Angle posted this on her FB page.

My Position on Scientology and Massages for Inmates
Today at 10:15am
Q: Harry Reid's ads have accused you of supporting a Scientology program that includes providing free massages to inmates. Is this true?

A: This is interesting because first of all, I am Southern Baptist and have been for 35 years. I am not a Scientologist. Secondly, as a legislator, it is my job to make sure that government spends less and to find places where government can cut costs.

The Department of Prisons director and I were looking into a program that cut recidivism from the 65% average to 10%. We both thought that it was worth looking at so I sponsored a trip to be privately funded on a non-legislative working day for any legislator who would like to take a look at a program with these claims for the express purpose of saving the state money.

It was in 2003, a very contentious tax year. The majority leader in my house sought to marginalize me and her effort was to get a cub reporter to make a sensational charge and he did. The trip was canceled. I had put a placeholder for a bill in case after the

What a relief...nice to know she's only wacky enough to support homeopathy.

I don't think she helped herself much.

More great journalism from Oz. And a little lulz for True Blood fans.

Damn Willhaven720. This is really interesting. I have only read 15 pages in so far, look forward to reading the rest tommorow.

And yes I live in Australia and there appears to be more and more media coverage lately exposing Scientology.

Thanks for sharing brother and good luck with everything.

Oh here we go...

I was waiting for the cult to to strike back at Anderson Cooper for the CNN report he did.

Scientologists fire back at CNN?s Cooper - Yahoo! News

Anderson Cooper probably never imagined he'd be on the cover of a magazine in quite this fashion. The Church of Scientology, still bristling over a Cooper-reported CNN investigation into allegations that senior church officials had physically abused members, has devoted the entirety of the latest issue of its in-house

I live and work in Hollywood. I was employed by one production company who I later found out were ALL scientologists! One day, my supervisor handed me a book LRH wrote on how to run a biz. She told me I was required to read it because from that point on, they were going to use it as their model. I respectfully declined and just asked for a summary of what she wanted from me.

I would always hear them talking about their church, and they would always try to get me to paricipate. As an atheist who grew up in a christian household, and have done a lot of research to come to my own personal beliefs...this made me feel very uncomfortable. I quickly realized I needed to get out.

In the entertainment industry, if you talk bad about scientologists at all, you are likely to get blackballed. You will not hear too many people in the biz talking shit about them. There really is an underground conspiracy involving them in entertainment.

Crazy shit

I suppose if were going to mention the church's response to Anderson Cooper's 360 story we should post the link to the article and vids. I didn't see a link to it in the article so have provided it here. (Edited - Found the link in the article.)

Anderson Furrows His Brow

well i knew most of this. i'm also not the sort of weak minded dweeb to be inducted into a cult. i have little sympathy for ex-scientologists.

I think that the CoS really chose to fuck with the wrong guy in Anderson Cooper. That guy is a major celebrity in his own right and people pay attention to what he says. If they try to go after him personally, he will fight back, and that will not be pretty.

Oh, I hope they do. I really do.

Thanks willhaven720, for this story. I have been training for 13 years and have close ties in the MMA community.
