Well what you are trying to do is compare two completley different eras.

Pride champions belts were almost never on the line. This is more to do with the promotion than the individual fighter because all the champs were like this. Fedor fought 20 something times in Pride,and never lost any of those fights,was champion in his third pride fight. So talking about Stipe's 4 defenses dont mean a whole hell of a lot if thats the hill you want to die on.

Dunno who is in contention, though I definitely like Ngannou. Exciting as all Hel and well spoken. Although, he still has some tests ahead of him.

I think if Francis faces some deep waters competition and absolute wars, like Shodo did against Cro Cop, Nog and Fujita, then it will definitely be telling.

On the flip side, Francis might get it just by Hulk smash tactics, though one would think the strategy won't work too long.
