How Yoel Romero won - Full Breakdown

This one will be for the ages

giphy.gif

Romero won the fight like the last two fights. This is not a sport but a show like wwe...all about money. Romero is simply Cuban and too old...

You have to be shitting me. The UFC is dying to have Yoel be the champ at 185. He is jacked and chiseled. Why do you think they keep giving him title shots even though he either misses weight or loses. 3 out of his last 5 fights had been title shots.

Great thread op. LOL at people getting angry and telling op he has no life. Or that it was a shit fight so the winner doesnt matter. who cares, dont pay attention.

Its been estimated that 30-40% of posters on any forum are paid shills. Bought by various intelligence agencies, governments and corporations. Not saying this is 100% true just some food for thought.

Impressive thread! Commendable.
I really do think this adds a lot to the conversation, rather than talking about "that punch" we can refer to a specific gif for every strike landed.

This shows pretty clearly that round 1-2 were Yoel's and 3-4 were Izzy's.
Round 5 is the big question for me. I think it's the hardest to score: Izzy's leg kicks caused Yoel to buckle, but Yoel landed harder strikes.

Adesanya did more with leg kicks that round than Romero with his strikes, many of which did barely land.
In the following instance for example, when watching it live, it seemed like Romero connected on three strikes, whereas he only connected the third one really:

It's Izzy's round.
Romero did more dmg even put a knot on his head... all izzy did was injure his foot..with leg kicks

Romero did a great job defending anything thrown to his head. That primarily is why Israel stuck to the leg kicks. Some choose to dismiss the leg kicks which is crazy. Some also want to discredit Israel for avoiding to engage with Romero against the cage and in other areas during the fight.

There is no fault in steering clear and picking your shots as he did. He was trying to get out with little damage and with his belt which was a success. Given what Romero has experienced you would think he would've gone full blown balls to the wall to get a convincing win. It was just the opposite almost like he was the title holder and he expected Israel to take it from him.
Then izzy should go back to kick boxing or find a new sport if he doesnt want to fight or even drop another weight class ....hes a coward not a gladiator

You're clueless

A knot? there's a slight bump that's almost not visible if you're not looking for it. But anyways, the "knot" wasn't affecting Izzy in that fight, but i know who was a few leg kicks away from crawling.

...and don't come at me with that "but he danced salsa for a few seconds after the fight!" yeah, he shortly danced. After the fight. Most likely he has just suppressed the pain as good as he could, to try to prove a point. Possibly has taken pain killers as well.

The fact remains that Israel was landing heavy kicks on Romero which clearly hurt him. This has been confirmed by Firas Zahabi as well, who himself said that Israels leg kicks>Yoel's head strikes.

Well, I've read the whole enchilada, and I have to say that I had Gay Jesus winning the fifth round.

Hold on your title says Romero won but then goes on to say adesanya won the last 3 rounds to 2. I dont get it. I admit I didn't read and skipped to the judges scorecard at the end. I assumed that's what you used to prove ur point.

Even the stats say adesanya is out punching him

Very high-quality thread. Much better than >90% of the trash people post here.

I was rooting for and picked Israel to win, but I thought it was pretty clear that Romero won rounds 1, 2, and 5. People are using 'It was boring' as an excuse to justify the terrible decision.

yeah this is the case for many fights imo that are scored and judged, if you use a strict interpretation of the criteria as you have with this post, incorrectly and the loser is awarded a victory, I don't think many people including the judged actually know what the criteria really is

ROUND 5
Adesanya 12 Strikes
Romero 14 Strikes

giphy.gif

Blocked high kick

giphy.gif

Oblique kick partially lands as Yoel throws a straight that lands.

giphy.gif

Another oblique kick.

giphy.gif

Jab

giphy.gif

Leg kick

giphy.gif

Straight

giphy.gif

That overhand again. Blocked by Israel.

giphy.gif

Tyron Woodley would be proud. Second hook lands.

giphy.gif

Hook to the midsection, Israel moving out of the way.

giphy.gif

Leg kick.

giphy.gif

Weak ass calf kick.

giphy.gif

Kick to the mid-section.

giphy.gif

Snap jab.

giphy.gif

Straight.

giphy.gif

Grabbing the leg, and a push straight. The optics here are awful: Israel stumbles and runs away across the whole octagon.

giphy.gif

Second jab lands, Hook partially lands.

giphy.gif

Blocked head kick.

giphy.gif

Leg kick city.

giphy.gif

Important moment. 3 strikes that all connect? Israel is visibly shook. That's the round winner right there.

giphy.gif

Yoel ends the round walking Israel down.

SCORE ROUND 5
Sal D'Amato - Israel Adesanya - 10-9 (Yoel 47-48 Israel)
Chris Lee - Israel Adesanya - 10-9 (Yoel 46-49 Israel)
Ron McCarthy - Israel Adesanya - 10-9 (Yoel 47-48 Israel)
Me - Yoel Romero - 10-9 (Yoel 48-47 Israel)

Last round was the easiest to score if you ask me.
And there you have it. The new champion Yoel Romero.

Israel kept kicking Yoel's legs, but Yoel kept hitting Israels face. I've tried to keep as many of the strikes in so you can see them for yourself. The only ones omitted are the ones that did not connect. Lastly to note; I'm not a fan of either fighter. MW hasn't really grabbed my attention, if I were to chose a fighter to root for it would be Hermansson. But it is an interesting exercise into how fights are judged vs how they are supposed to be judged.

Yes, I have no life.
Yes, this was too long to read, bro.
Mate, this is an awesome breakdown. I scored it exactly as you did.

I prefer to consider this fight a draw. Both fighters didn't convinced.
It was a horrible and sad fight. Seeing Romero running against Izzy on the last seconds of the Rd5 just indicates how much bad this fight was. You have five rounds to do something against the champion, but no, you go full autistic mode on the last seconds of the fight.
What makes everything more depressing is the fact that Romero was, currently, the only decent challenger to dethrone Izzy. Costa will get smashed by Izzy.
